This is a song I've worked on to check out some new gear I got lately. When I started looking for lyrics I ended up using several peoples different points of view on the crazy situations lately--which I will spare the details, too complicated!!

The lead guitar is a Epi Les Paul Standard that I got recently-it passed the audition with flying colors. I will most likely retrack the solos and vocals, and would love some feedback on what works/doesn't work on the tune. Thanks in advance to all.

Drums could go down a fair bit relative to everything else. They're dominating the mix.

Good tune.

Hey thanks for the listen-I think I was trying to bring up the cymbal crashes and overdid it! I'll back them down on the next mix.:)

Its a catchy tune. Yes, drums are too loud, and lead vocals are being buried.

It could use a B section, or rather a C section.:D Its a bit repetitive, but its a good track.

I like it....I do have to agree with what has been said before though. Cool stuff man:D

Thanks a million for the listen and comments David-its my first try using EZDrummer for the drum tracks and I'm still learning the program.

I was wondering myself about a B part for some variety as well-the song is still really in the formative stage and theres likely quite a bit of changes needed.:o

Thanks a lot Jay, I wish I could write & perform some great songs like you turn out some day. Loved you're latest!

Alright-here is a re-mix of the song, please give it a listen and post comments and suggestions.
I've dropped the drum track level by 3 dB's and also faded out the ending. I am hoping to do some retracking of the guitars and vocals and add a C part for some variation to the song-probably this weekend. I hope the drum level will help it out a bit.
The lyrics were based on a relative that has developing dementia and some of the mood swings they have gone through lately-it has made for some rough times lately...
it is titled--Song for the Times mix#2

A good listen. The snare sounds a little hot to me still. Interesting sound of the rhythm gtrs - blends well with the organ (or is that another rhythm gtr with infinite sustain that just sounds like an organ?:D). Good tone on the lead guitar.

Yeah drums are loud ( I can't believe I'm saying that  ) Actually, it might just be the snare, because I can't say the kik is too loud.

I love this tune, though. It has a CREEM/Rare Earth feel to it. Rocks well. Well mixed, with the snare a bit down and the vocals a little louder (not much), it would be a killer kick-ass track.

Thanks a lot-the rhythm guitars are a Tele and a Firebird copy recorded direct and panned opposite left & right through a J-Station. I like the sound of those mini humbuckers on the Firebird and the Tele sound together, with the organ it reminds me a bit of older Deep Purple sound just a bit. The organ is a Church organ patch on a Roland XP-60 keyboard. The drums are the EZDrummer program, I'll check out the mixer and adjust the snare output.
Glad to hear the comments and suggestions.

Thanks a million Rami, theres still work to be done-I figured it was worth posting to get feedback and eliminate a lot of the guess work. I still haven't quite settled on the lyrics yet and leads are all scratch tracks and will be redone soon-same for the vocal tracks.
Again thanks for the listen, comments and especially the complements from everyone.;)

Is that you on the vox? Very nice!

I like the organ a lot.

I think the cymbals get a little repetitive, you might want to vary them a bit or even drop them out every once in a while.

Overall great song well done.

Second mix is better Tony...drums still seem to be in a different tune though...maybe some verb would help, and maybe raising the volume of the guitar and the vocals a smidge...and I don't hear much kick. Mainly just snare. Song itself is pretty cool....keep on working it...:D

All the parts are mine on the song, the organ is a church organ sound-it mixes well with the crunchy guitars:)
It definitely needs more work, thanks for your comments~

Thanks, I agree Ed, the drums are dry and out front to much-I'll see what different reverbs are in my mixing program and get it to blend in better.

Like great sound of the song, but I agree with the drum dominance.

Again, thanks for the listen-I'm still learning the drum program-I'll get them tamed yet..;)

Drums are too loud but the vocal also sits a little too far above the mix.
I really like the vocal phrasing - remind me a little of Rodriguez and of Steve Winwood.
please post the tweaking!

Thanks for the listen and the advice Ray. I'll try to do some further tweeking and adjustment of the tune this weekend-this latest ice storm will probably keep me shut in this weekend anyway!!!

Damn ice storms - I'd rather shovel snow.....

Definitely a cool classic/prog rock vibe going on here. The similarities to the Deep Purple sound are unmistakeable. Good mix of guitars/organ. The guitar solos are are nicely done. The drums are definitely too loud overall. When the rest of the instruments are going really strong (like a solo) the drums get a bit more buried and are pretty good. I can see what you mean about the cymbals and the kick being too low. EZ is a program I hope to pick up some day myself....

:cool::D:cool::D
