After two years I finally wrote a song for my girlfriend and I'm going to give her a CD at Christmas. The vocals were rushed after working in the cold all day, but they shouldn't be too too bad. I mostly just want her to be able to play it on whatever system she chooses and not have too much bass etc... so those comments are appreciated. Also, I'm not a really good pop song writer so any suggestions there might be helpful for making up after our next argument :D

The Road To Baxter Park

(Sam, go easy on me bud :D )

Excellent tune man. It's easy to listen to.Im on the second play now.The acoustics sound sweet. You have a unique playing style that is too cool. The vocal is just right............Man you really know how to track and mix.Nifty bass line too.I dont have any suggestions(Im not really capable of suggesting much other than volume levels.:D ).......this sounds really good.......the lead guitar is sweet....it sounds like it's coming up from the bottom of the mix and cutting through just right if that makes any sense. It's just right....it sounded like it had a little short room verb on it that placed it there.......hell I dont know.....it sounds good.

Im sure your girlfriend will love this.

you know...I haven't listened to it yet...but using something akin to the force, I sense a needed adjustment around the 84.2 htz adjustment in a log-rhythmic fashion to achieve the low end brilliance that is sounds like you are emulating on a signal flowed kinda way.. I'd try about 1/16th of a turn, to the left..or about 1/10th the amount if you used the harmonic octaves.

Also...a general 25dB boost in headphone playback always helps the circulation.

also...have you considered voltage probes? ..you can also reverse the polarity and blow each others fuses too...

I'll return with better refined remarks...

nice tune........the acoustic sounds great...what kind of guit do you play?

my only suggestion would maybe wetten the vocals up at the beginning just a touch........they sound fine once everything kicks in, but a touch dry at the beginning...........

sounds good

whoa... how ya lovin the C3? That catbird's sittin pretty right in that mix all nice & tight like. Acoustics sounds good... (not all flammy like you'rs truly's )

It's pretty spectacular hearing this level of detail on your vocals (finally)... silky smooth...

I don't trust these P.O.S. speakers... so the monitors will get this toon when I get a sec...

Love the creativity, as always... (something about the backing vox seems off... I'm sure it's me)

Very nice mix. Love what the bass is doing. Is that the real thing? Or the "tri tone"? :)

only because you probably don't want her to miss any of the lyrics, I'd turn them up 15% or more. The bass sounds fine.

nice tunage

Kramer Thanks man...that lead guitar is stereo miked...SM57 and Octava MC012. Touch of verb and a touch of real fast delay panned slightly to the side. Glad you liked it...loved your singing on that last tune!

powderfinger When the instruments kick in, I add the reverb. I wanted the vocals up close and personal in the intro before taking off on the journey. Thanks for the suggestion though...I may use it.

participant So far I like the C3...no EQ needed. Beats the living shit outa that Bhe...ba...baba...you know what I'm trying to say.
The bass is the Triton still. I'm hoping to buy the real thing in January. I much prefer the feeling of strings on my fingers! Thanks for the listen...and if you can lemme know what you think on the monitors....PM me if you'd prefer.
Oh ya...I just did the backing vox today, so I'm sure there's some goofs. I've still got Saturday to do any reparations. I've got a feeling there's some harmonies that just don't work and will need to be not just re-performed, but re-written. Was anxious to try the mic :D

Cheers!

Sorry just missed ya mix....

Gotcha on the vox. The drums are a couple things. Most of it is my standard Triton programming, but the hi-hat is basically a sound font. I finally smartened up and ditched that thin hat sample I was using before. The snare I thickened with a 20ms delay.

So is this gonna get me some action or what?

listened many times on the big speakers..

sounds excellent.. this is some fine guitar playing as an added bonus.. always top notch tunes, and you never drop bombs like I do! :)

whatever you do will serve it's purpose considering the intent.. this is more than done..

If I was forced to rip it apart to it's finest molecule,

1 - I'm not crazy about the drum sounds anymore.. that snare drum that you use always sounds like it's double hitting or something to me.. I'm sure it's a drum preference, and God knows I have some of the most serious mix problems of 'the gang.' :D I would like to hear all your tunes with better drum *sounds.*

2 - I really liked the vocals for the most part, but some parts sounded strange.. Like a dark note that somebody like me would like, but the average non-musician person may hear it as being off a bit.. and they probably wouldn't tell you...

Overall, great tune and recording as *always!* If you didnt change a thing, it's great.. and you will have sex.

you posted it at a good time.. I'll be giving it quite a few more spins and I'll come back with more compliments or complaints I'm sure..

I know exactly what you mean....thanks! The "double hit" on the snare is the little delay I used. I don't know why, it just sounded cool to me at the time :) I don't have a lot of options for drums right now...but I have been weeding through calls on my ad...

delay on the snare ay? maybe just reverb might be cool..

the only reason it bothers me is it's the same sound I get when a pad is falsely triggering, or when I hit it too hard.. I get almost 2 hits for every one..

as far as you not having any drum options, I have heard some damn fine drums done with Fruity Loops.. I actually have something recorded by sonusman.. he said it was whipped up in Fruity Loops quickly, but it sounds pretty good..

also, check out the dude who posted death metal.. I think his name is Dauntlet.. If he's not on the front page, he's on one of the first few here.. He used 'drums from hell' or something, and it sounds pretty sick..

Wow, brilliant!

Lovin' those octave doubled vox.

Damn Sluice nice detail.

That's it mister, I'm downloading all your stuff.

I think you're safe, Tom. It's not kicking too much, I can make out all the words, and it sounds really good on my brand spankin' new monitors :D (which don't respond below 50Hz...little caveat there).

Jeez...you make it sound like 2 years is a long time to make a girl wait for a tune...my wife's been waiting for about 15 years now (yes, we married VERY young). I'm sure I'll get around to it. :D

Nice tune....I always enjoy your music...complex and detailed, both the music and the mix....also, good sound on the electric guitar solo...

/mcmd

Hey man,
......very very nice man. .......damn, Im loving where youre headed w/ the bass. .....Very cool.

The drums dont bother me as much as they do others (zeig heil Sam:D.....I tried to get a listen of Daunt's drums, but the file was removed:() .

Interesting lead guitar tone, it's very complimentary to the feel of the whole song.

I really dig the vocal part after the solo. .....nice melody. There are a couple of bg notes that might be questionable. The one that sticks out to me most is the "forty million miles" line. ....seems like you could find something that could "hookify" that line. I really like the high octave stuff...... very serene.

Really nice arrangement on this man. I like alot....no extraneous fluff.... to the point and beautiful. ....Im on my fifth listen.... ...and still discovering...... I love that! This is one of your best man...... ....wow!

......this is a pop song? :D

G w/ a great big, ..."touched" 5 GREAT work man!!!

Glad you never dissappoint.Great tune, man.I totally dig the sound of your voice and your time signatures.Mint Leads in there ,too.No need to rehash the snare thing ,but yea...double hit sounding.Did I catch her name in there...?I agree with that other guy(hehe) your gettin laid my friend, wish I could say the same for myself....Any way ,Kick-ass,as always:p

Its so wierd how different people hear different things. To me the drums absolutely sounded great, very nice off beats which you do soooo well. Very cool vocals sound as well, I like it a lot. The guitar parts are like a unexpected journey nice transitions I like the tonal variations every stinking one of them, you are a master. :) He smiles in envy!... I guess that if I had to describe this song in a word , It would be SEXY.

Really great job.

I also took a listen to the collab with Jeff. Also great stuff

as well as Look away or was that rhythms,,, really sweeps you away it has a nautical sailing sense

Everything, and I listened to them all, was musically interesting if not superb. Bravo

I cant believe all talent and genius there is out there especially on this site, which goes ,for the most part untapped by the commercial markets, I look forward to hearing more of your work.
