I have struggled with Sonar when it comes to MIDI. I can't find the patches from my keyboard (Roland XP30). How do I import them onto Sonar?
Another thing, do I have to use a seperate track for every MIDI channel? I used to work with Freestyle, so I was wondering if they work the same.
Thanks

You're suffering from a common misconception. You cannot import the patches from your keyboard into SONAR. The patches are waveforms stored on the XP-30 that can be played from the keyboard or from MIDI messages received from outside the keyboard... in your case, from SONAR via a MIDI interface.

You can communicate between SONAR and the XP-30 to choose which patches you want on the XP-30, if you have the apporproate instrument definition for the keyboard. If you don't, it's not terribly hard to make one, especially if the keyboard is very similar to a previous Roland model, which is usually the case. But I bet they have an XP-30 one by now...

Re your other question, yes, you can only send data on different channels if you segregate your parts into tracks. There's no way provided to select channels on a note-by-note basis in a single track.
