Sonar axis of audio tour/some thoughts

OK, how are these for starters:

My friend told me Cubase rocks and Sonar sucks. Should I buy Cubase?

I lost my dcpjdlk755impfe.wav file. Where can I find it?

I bought Sonar last week and it doesn't run very well on my Intel 386 with 640K memory. Do I need to upgrade to a 486??

Why can't I use VST plugins in Sonar? What do you mean I have to buy more software!!!

How do I get a serial number for the copy of Sonar I got on Morpheus last night? It won't seem to run without it. And can you guys send me a manual for it?

I have this 87 track project that I've been working on for eight months. Last night I copied the file 87Track.cwp to a CD for backup so I could reformat my hard drive. Today when I restored the file, I can't hear any sound or see any wave pictures, and I get an error message (something about can't locate audio). Do I need to change a setting somewhere?


Anything else??

Hey Qwerty, refresh my memory. I use Win2k, where do I go to change my HD's cache size? Is this for your C drive for applications or for a seperate audio drive? So you set it for 1,024k? So like a 1 meg. Great tip. Thanks

I was talking about Sonar's internal I/O buffer setting - from memory OPTIONS - AUDIO - in there somewhere, sorry - not in front of my DAWling at the moment.

Whoa, works like a charm. I set the I/O thingy to 1024 and my disk usage went from 42% to 19%!!!! It takes a little getting used to the delay in sound when you hit the play button.

Thanks for the tip. This program just keeps getting better IMHO.

I must be lucky cos I started off with a win 98 PII machine and Cakewalk Express 8.0 with an AWE 64 soundcard. This kept dropping out but I did okay. But the difference I guess is that I had no expectations; I had no slick sales man giving me a starry eyed pitch. In fact, two years ago no-one in the UK had even heard of Cakewalk! But I found this board and life became much easier.

Dachay, you could ask em why no-one from 12 tones ever posts on this board, I still don't understand why they don't.

And ask em the favourite one "I have recorded my track and when I get to record on another track, I keep hearing my original track play back along with the new one on the same track. Where do I go in Sonar to stop this?"

And "my mate Chuck keeps having to change diapers when he records. How does he stop this occuring in Sonar?"

That's a good point, Paul. Although they do run their own newsgroup, so I guess they feel obligated to support that.
