Sonar 4P and video editing conflicts?

Hi,
Over the past year or so I have been researching assembling a PC based DAW. However, I have also decided that I would like the PC to be capable of video editing (digital mostly, and analogue-to-digital conversion).

I have asked on another part of this website if there are any *general* issues that I need to look out for, and am posting here to find out if anyone has experienced any conflicts of difficulties with Sonar 4 Producer and video editing software loaded on the same machine?

I'm talking here about anything that would mean that audio recording / tracking / editing and video editing would interfere with each other.

thanks,

GVDV.

It would be easier if you told us exactly what video capture hardware and software you plan on using.

Hi,
Sorry, I haven't actually decided on the exact video software/program yet, because I didn't know if there would be any potential conflict problems - that's what I was hoping to find out here!

The most specific I can be at the moment is to say that I would not be going with a budget programme: I like the ability to have precise manual control over things, and while I might not use all of the features found of the higher end programmes, I can see plumping for something like Adobe Premiere or its competitors, or possibly something a step down.

However, it would be helpful to me if you can share any knowledge that you have of any conflicts that Sonar 4 PE has with *any* video editing software. That way, I can cross any of these pieces of software off my list.

Conflicts are rife with firewire and XP SP2. Hotfixes are out to solve the issues but there are shit loads of reported problems

Do you mean conflicts are present *only* when trying to run audio and video with Win XP and SP2, or that they're present with audio only (or video only)?

I ask because there certainly seem to be enough people on this forum who run audio only machines with XP and SP2 which work fine, but maybe my understanding of this is incomplete.

Thanks,

GVDV.

I use Sonar 4, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, and After Effects, and have absolutely no problems with any conflicts between the programs.

This is running WinXP, Delta 66 sound card, AMD 3200+ processor, 1GB RAM, and a bunch of hard drives.

Good luck,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for this. It's good to know that you're not experiencing any conflicts.

Can you say a little more about your set-up (motherboard, FSB, makes, size and types of HD, dual RAM etc., and any other information that you can think of pertaining either to he audio or video side of things - e.g., what's your video card)?

Thanks,
GVDV
