Well, my little package arrived today. I only have a couple of hours on the beast and ran into some soundcard issues that did not exist in version 3.1.1.

Just a few comments.

The navigator is just a great idea and makes slogging across the mix a lot easier
Freeze is, well incredible.
Dual Gains on the master channel are very cool.
Sonar 4 does not translate the hide track settings from previous projects, so you will have to re-hide them. Kind of a pain

Overall it looks pretty neat. I will get back later after I log some hours on it. If you have dual soundcards you may be in for a little challenge.

I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. Bastard, bastard, bastard!!! ;)

Now - tell us everything!

- Compare and contrast Pro Tools Beat Mapper thingy with Sonar's nudge implementation
- What did ya mean about the dual soundcard thing?

:) Q.

Definately interested in the alignment tool. See how well it works and let us know. Also, if you dont mind, copy and paste the text from the help manual on how you do it, and how it works, etc... interested in how they implemented it.
What does freeze do? copy and paste that, too :)

I called Cakewalk sales support and asked if they support Studiomix in Sonar 4. They said yes, but referred to the control surface tab. But Studiomix is not a generic control surface. In Sonar 2.2 it is in the Views pulldown and has its own utility. Much better than a generic control surface IMO.

Does anybody know if it shows up in Sonar 4 (studio edition) under the Views pulldown. It would be greyed out if it's not hooked up but should show up anyway. Cakewalk did not give me a satisfactory answer over the phone. This will be the deciding factor for me to upgrade.

The nudge operates very similar to protools. It uses the numpad for this.

1 - small nudge left
3- small nudge right
4-6 incrementally higher nudge left and right
7-9 even higher nudging left and right

You can set it to ticks or seconds etc.

8-2 are nudging up and down.

Beat mapper....well, I am not sure that is in this version but I will check.

The Freeze is a one step process of making a processed audio file, taking the midi track and synth offline. Thus no CPU engagement. You have an option to unload the synth or soundfont to gain back memory if need be. You can also unfreeze which deletes the prior audio track brings the midi track and synth online, allows you to make changes, then you can freeze it again. Very cool.

Do not see the Studiomix on the view menu.

Nudge sounds cool. Nudging in SONAR 3 doesn't seem to be as straight forward.

I just barely got SONAR 3 working - had to build a new computer to do it.

I'll probably get SONAR 4 but not before I pop for the GigaStudio 3 upgrade.
