Does anyone know if the Sonor 4 Producer, evaluation copies are full, registerable versions. I've seen some new in the box for decent prices but would hate to buy anything less than a full, registerable version?

Well, I called the Cakewalk people and was told that the evaluation copies are non-registerable and that they time out among other things. Anyone know if this is true?

The best deals I've found for legitimate Cakewalk stuff has been direct from Cakewalk...from time to time, they'll have some very nice deals. As for the demo version (the one found on their website, not sure about any others) will time out. When you order the real deal, you'll get CD's, books and a registerable license which will entitle you to free updates and support.

Not sure what you mean by evaluation copies.

Sonar has a demo version available on their web site. It is crippled in that you can not export from it, nor can you save anything. (Not sure if it also times out - but I don't think it does). However, it is generally fine for evaluating the product to decide if you want to buy it.

If Cakewalk told you this, I would suspect it's true. "Evaluation" copies will have limitations and you'll need to purchase a full version for all features.

What I meant by evaluation copy is, some people are selling what looks to be full versions sealed in the box with a sticker on the box that says evaluation copy. [ Not the trial version from website ]. Cakewalk told me these are full versions but will time out and that some people have been burned thinking
they are the full real deal. One was for sale last week for 299.00 and did not sell, it is now up for 99.00. Guess that says it all.

hahaha somebody is trying to sell a time limited version of sonar for 300 bucks!!! that's hilarious... Some sucker would probably buy it too....

cakewalk told you this on the phone, that there are time limited evaulation copies floating around? i have never heard of any such copies but i'm somewhat out of the loop as it were. You should post this thread at the cakewalk sonar forum and see what kind of responses you get.

Gotcha. I'd forget about that option (obviously). I'm assuming your talking eBay where these copies are located?

Cakewalk retail evals

I'm not sure whether or not this is relevant, but I know that Cakewalk had sent evaluation copies of Sonar 4 and Project 5 v1.5 combined to selected retail outlets, which I believe is a full functional install. Only it expires after 45 days, and you have to purchase a license after the times up.
:(
cyrral

You are right some people have bought them and been pissed off when they time out / expire, then they call Cakewalk and say they have a problem with the software. Not much they can do for them at that point, glad I didn't fall for the scam!!!!

Yea Im one of the guys that got fucked.

Mine timed out after 6 months. I got it from a forumite w/ a good rep too :(

That is truly sad.

Hopefully CW learned from this and won't go that route again.
