SONAR 3.0 Officially unveiled!!!

After further oggling, here are my reactions:

I like the new UI. It seems they've finally really put some thought into saving valuable screen real estate. They've broke with the standard windows toolbar and gone with a layout that can fit most features on one horizontal strip, leaving more room below for tracks.

The new mixer really doesn't mean a lot to me, since I mix from the track view.

By far the best improvement would be if they truly have the gapping problem fixed as they are claiming.

They have switched marketing tactics a little: insead of marketing the "producer's edition" as a step up, they are marketing the "studio edition" as a step down. Subtle; probably effective from a marketing standpoint, but irksome to me.

Being a proud owner of Ultrafunk already, I doubt I'll go with the "producer edition" unless V-Sampler and all the samples prove to be absolutely killer. Haveing been badly burned on the "musician's toolbox" that came with previous versions, I'm highly skeptical.

I skipped SONAR 2.0. It didn't have enough new stuff to make me take the bait. Version 3.0, combined with all the 2.0 stuff, is enough to make me upgrade, but I'll probably still wait until after the first few rounds of fixes to do it. Can you say "version 3.2"?

Thats cuz you are a true pro Aaron, just like most of us here (Are you listening Moskus:D )

Hey, I am still a HS 2002 user who hasn't even ventured beyond what that program has to offer, yet alone moving to Sonar 3.0.

This has been heavily leaked over the past weeks, most folk are pissed that it doesn't resolve the metronome problem (having to play back a dummy track before deciding what the speed of the metronome should be).

OTOH, progress is being made, and most peeps will be looking to see if it includes a Dxi/VST and Dxi/VSTi wrapper.:)

Ughhh,shudder ....

just when the memory had faded away.......you had to open old wounds ;)

I think Cakewalk may be inventing ways to get my money.
I'll probably pass on this.

I agree...but

Same here. I don't trust Twelve Tone Systems, Inc. as far as I can throw them. They have one hell of a marketing guy. Anyway I'm not biting until the bugs are worked out, and I find out if I need a Cray to run the thing.

Screw you guys, I'm getting Sonar 3 as soon as I can! :D

Say what you want, but that's a beautiful Console View! :D :D :D

I don't want to get on the wrong side of everyone here, but I'm with moskus, mine will be on order as soon as the Australian distributer can get their hands on them.. when I spoke with the guy, he knew nothing... I was telling him info!!

But I must admit, the fact that the console view has the eq/effect controls in the channel strip I'll be cleaning up the audio in Track View then mixing in Console View!!

Mind you, as soon as any patches come out I'll download them straight away... bleading edge of technology!!

What the F@#$

Did you see how much 12 tones is asking for SONAR 3 for a new user!!! I pitty the FOOL! I love SONAR 2.2XL. I Love 2.2 XL so much I think I'm going to save my bucks for REAKTOR 4 and skip 3.0!!!

MSRP's are always grossly inflated. audiomidi.com has the producer edition listed for presale at $399.

Well they had it listed yesterday at $399, must have been an error. Today it says $499. But my point still stands. You aren't going to find CubaseSX for any cheaper.

Let me re-phrase that!

Let me rephrase my comment, "I pitty the fool" to "I feel sorry for the new user". I guess it's really no different though. I purchased Sonar XL 1.0 and then a year in a half later or so Sonar XL 2.0 and now this. About a year after twelve tones released 2.0 they want to dig in my pockets again for what appears to be some minor improvements and another plugin or two. Anyone who as been at PC based recording/sequencing for a while should have their fair share of plugins by now. Maybe if they bragged about improving the overall sound quality that can be achieved with Sonar I would bite. I know they write software to make money but give something to us loyal users that have been with cakewalk for years.
I think I am going to sit this next one out or at least wait until some of you guys start raving about it here.
PLUS! I've been drooling over the Reaktor 4.0 reviews since May!

No that's the same, and still: You get what you pay for!

And MAN, this is value for money! :D
I'm really looking forward to Sonar 3! A great Consolve View and a new, modern Track View! I can't say no to that! I'm gonna stay in the game, and upgrade. :)

A great Consolve View . . .
That's sort of like having a great collection of Lawrence Welk records.

Thanks for the compliment...I think :)

Hey, welcome, CW Marketing Guy.

Can you confirm whether Sonar 3.0 features bus-to-bus routing (I guess that is what you would call it). IOW, the ability to route several tracks to a submix bus, which then could be sent to the Master.

This is sorely needed for drum submixes, or BGV's, etc.

It may be in your literature under some technical name (like Universal Bus Architecture??), but I haven't been able to tell for sure whether that is included or not.

Another great marketing ploy... make them buy it first to find out for sure. :D :D :D

Yes it does. You can send buses through other buses which would allow you to send several tracks through one bus for submixing, which can then be sent through the master.

The new bus enhancemens are fantastic in my biased opinion :) Through them you will have much more control over your mix in 3.0. It's a very flexible environment

CW MarketingGuy...

Kewl...
The most reason I stick with SONAR (cakewalk) is because it handles MIDI alot better than others!!! That's realy important for us. Then, how about an improvement in MIDI section? I mean, not DXi thingee... it's about how SONAR3 handles MIDI data? So far I've seen only improvement on MIDI sync is mentioned... how about transforming particular MIDI controller data to some other number ? (eg. turning all selected CC no. 7 to 11, etc...) Can you explain it ? Thank's !!!
