This is a Nu-Metal band I recorded and mixed a year and half ago. Have a listen if you like

And this is a norwegian traditional which we've rearranged. I play the guitar, a girl friend of my sings. It was recorded and mixed in2 hours, so don't expect much :)

The vocal track is great! Clean and sits well.
I liked the drum sound too.

I think the guitars could come up in the mix. During the hard parts, they don't provide as much punch and power as they could. During the soft parts, that effected git is getting lost along with the mood and texture it provides.

Nice dynamic song.

peace,
Theron.

theron;

thanx for your input. I agree with you regarding the guitars. It was a compromise, 'cause when I did bring the guitars more up front, i felt that I lost the drums. But I guess that is a matter of taste ;)

once again, thanx for taking the time :)

*cheers*

on these sony headphones, maria is sounding really beautiful but I'lll have to listen on my monitors for any input.

Sounds nice

jaguar: please let me know what you think when you do. Thanx for taking the time

Lena sounds fantastic! What a great voice and recording is so smooth. I don't like the echo effect at the beginning though. Her voice holds well all alone. Guitar also sounds kind of thin. When you just have voice and guitar I think you can get away with a much fuller, warmer guitar sound.

people on this board usually aren't real quick to critique stuff until you spend some time here or you just have something outstanding to share so don't be too disappointed if you don't get a lot of feedback right away. just stick around, and welcome to the board.

oh, and i've found that it's not cool to bump your own thread unless you are responding specifically to someones comments.

I don't know what erichenryus is talking about.
I don't mind ripping up someones hard work, to shreads, and specially when they be kinda new.

I just listened to your tune, Vegar.
I like it.

Go ahead and bump, butt, bruise. I don't mind.

thanx for the comments, guys

ericenryus: There's a version without the delays. This is a remix I made for fun, because I really liked it. I agree with the guitar thought... it's a bit thin. But hey, everything was done in 2 hours :)

Blo - cool tune, terrible guitar sound... the whole mix sounds a bit too crisp and harsh to me... but the major problem is that guitar sound.. It sounds harsh and direct.. the song is cool and the recording would be good if not for the harsh abbrasive guitar sound and all the treble on the mix..

harsh but pretty cool IMHOP..

I listened to 'Maria" also and that was better to me.... She has a great voice..

yeah... i might have overdone the exciter on the mastringside :)

Vegar, I'm not a big metal fan so I can't comment on the quality of the material. I love the drum sound I've got no choice but to use drum machines and I'm a frustrated drummer so I always focus in on that aspect. The snare has just enough ring and attack without sounding strangled.
The Vox seem a bit 'in your face' at the start of the track. I guess with that style they need to be highly compressed.
The Maria track is great, it must be a joy to record that voice. I probobly agree with the comments about the guitar but its a minor thing and the playing is good

On Blow.

In the verses, I thought the guitar sounds were pretty harsh. I'd reduce the mids and bring up the level. Same thing goes for the vocals. The "ahhh" at 2:36 was a little too dramatic. In the chorus, I thought things weren't as harsh in the mid-ranges as they were in the verses, but still a bit harsh to some extent. In the chorus there was some competition between the vocals and guitars for sonic space.

On Maria.

Nice feel to the song. Nice voice and good sounding guitar. I thought there was a bit of EQing work to do on this one too. I think you could separate the vocals from the guitar and get a little better sound to it. Nice job though - I kind of liked it.

Thanx for constuctive response guys.

TrippleM: I agree with the guitars and the vocals. I did add a bit at 800 - 1500 on the guitars to make it stand out a bit more. Maybe not that smart. I better lower those again, at least some

On the maria tune, i must say in my "defense" that i've spent only 2 hours on it... including tracking :) I'm planning on working on it more after my holydays. I'm going to eastern europe for a month next thursday :)

Matt303: glad you like the drums. i'm happy with them myself... And yes, the vocals are HEAVY compressed :) Almost every track is. It must be to be able to get some controll over this music :)

I personly like that the vocals are in your face. I feel that they sit quite good in the mix. but thats MHO anyway :)

Do any of you use NS10? *kidding*

once again, thax guys.
