hello. i am a solo musician trying to record some songs for the first time. this is the most complete one so far: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8430869 i have not recorded vocals yet because im trying to get the music part right first. the guitars were recorded via S/PDIF from my X3live to an m-audio 1212, then to cubase4. the drums are ez-drummer. this is where i believe the problem is. the drums sound like....a machine!! lol if anyone agrees, what can i do to remedy this? also, i have ozone and wanted to try it out, so i experimented on this song. the one thing i learned is that the more i fiddled with all that stuff, the worse it sounded! lol so i ended up just choosing one of the presets within ozone. point being, besides the drums sounding like dung, i am very pleased with the over-all mix so far. but im not sure if its just because its my song :/ so i was hoping someone with some experience would take a listen and give me some direction. thanks in advance

Heh - I like the guitar... :)

I tried some freeware drum-shit which wasn't very flexible and didn't sound too good, before going back to FL Studio, where I'd started. I think the drums are reasonably realistic sounding, for what it is - and there are plenty of drumkits to choose from. There's also a 'swing' option on the pattern sequencer, which I haven't tried - but is supposed to give it more of a human feel.

Whatever you use, unless you have a human drummer, is still a machine though.

I'd also like to hear more bass guitar in the mix. Otherwise, very nice.

Hope this helps.

I think you're on the right track with the drums. If you think they sound too programmed then add some more variation. The sound you have is fine. Second the comment about the bass. I didn't hear any; I have the TV playing simultaneously but I'd still expect to hear some more low end.

damn!! i didnt even think about the bass :/ it is pretty friggin weak!! lol i actually turned the volume down on the drums a lil bit and that seemed to help. im going to re-do the bass. thanks again for lending an ear!!

Hey, that's what we're here for... I could tell there was a little bit of something, intended in the way of bass, just not enough. I look forward to hearing the finished piece.

I hope I'll be able to come to you for some tips on guitar playing someday.

Kind regards
