something completely different... whales!

I really like the quality of your voice. Its a little loud in the mix, but its nice.

The melody is also nice.

Altogether a nice, relaxing tune, but needs some work on the balance and resolution.

Funk on!

Yeah, the voice is just a bit high. Little too much bass too. Good tune.

Real interesting words. "Whales will save the world in the end." Pretty cool and funny.

Were the vocals recorded at the end of a long session? You sounded a bit hoarse. I don't remember you sounding like that on another song of yours I listened to. maybe it's just because the vocals are so out front in this one.

You might want to bring the vocals back just a bit here. You might also double track the rhythm guitar part or create a second part. That would help round out the background.

Harmonies would also sound nice here.

golly! nothing yet aboot my timing probs!!!

a lot of what yous say i see it yes. the vocal and bass being up was intentional. the vocal is s'posed to be really close and up front. the bass is soft and wanted to be up... it told me so! ill try to control them in the future...

im glad you say its relaxing cause thats what i was going for!

it wasnt at the end of a long session but it was late at night and its harder to get a clear tone when your singing a little softer... makes any sense????

i wanted more parts but i couldnt fit in anything on the rhythm that went well... doubling is a good idea i should try it!

if somebody would do harmonies for me that would be great but when i do them myself everything gets all sludgey!

thanks for listening!!! i love this place!!!

:p

nice song......you need some bouys and water sounds ala Hendrix's song on Electric Ladyland. Can't think of the name of it.
I agree that it's bass heavy and the voice could come down but you might also deal with it using EQ or FX.

Nice song, you definitly have the drifting on the sea production going!
I can almost hear the seagulls.:D

You voice sounds just right,a little lower and it would be perfect.

I like the way you ended it,nice whale calls!
Might sound better if you lowered the whale sounds or more rebverb, you know further out in the distance, you can just barely hear them on the horizon.

And kill the first lead guitar,or make it cleaner, but keep the little loop at the end.

Just a thought.:)

The more I listen to it,the more I like it.
This is a really, really fine song, takes me away.
Great writing.

Thanks.

Best to you,
Pete

"...don't laugh at me, I'm just singin' a lullaby for two"
Cool lyric, and I dig the guitar whale sounds. Bass was too up front to me, also. I could hear drums being a little heavier (to fit the whale motif).
Peaceful song, with a bit of a twist. Good writing!

I like the honesty in your vocal delivery, - very straight-up.
Also, the bass guitar is very Hendrix/Redding and reminds me of that Electric ladyLand vibe.

Nice job,

ha ha ha i went to the library and got a cd of whale calls and whale singing so the calls are not too far wrong.

they do three sliding low notes and then the long sliding high notes.

i wanted the whales to sound joyful and triumphant. on the recording there were echoes so i put delay with feedback.

lt. bob is thinking about 1983 a merman i should turn to be. i love that song. i saw somebody do those echoes with a reel to reel recorder with loops. you play the loop and then turn the motor off but it keeps playing. sounded exactly like the hendrix slowing down echoes.

muzeman i cant miss an opportunity for a guitar solo! ive been a lead guitar player my whole musical life! at least i didnt go 3 rounds...

mkg i thought about more drums. im getting too much click on my bass drum so im thinking about changing the setup. i use a wooden beater on a wooden disc covered by a leather beater pad. i think if i use a felt beater thatll make it deeper. i would have used more of the set but im not a drummer so i have to keep the parts simple or ill be way off time. anything i add it throws me off. maybe in a few more years...

mcmd - duck dunn the guy who played on all the redding stuff is my bass idol. i got a book and 2 cd's of his stuff with booker t and the mgs. i wish i could sing like otis!!! the greatest soul singer of all time!!!

thanks everbuddy!!!

i really will have to control the bass but it just kept creeping up. i thought somebody would say the electric 12 string was too loud. i forgot to turn it down when i turned the vocal drums and lead guitars down so the bass could be louder!

:p

Hey Jeap,

Thought I'd give some initial thoughts without looking at the thread.

I liked the mood of the song alot. It comes through but, I don't think it is supported by the mix. The mood makes me think everything should be soft, cozy and comforting. No right angles, just curves, if you will.

The vox was well delivered but too loud and too cutting(like you're touching the mic). I'd lower the mix volume and play with some reverb and chorus to give it some warmth and placement.

I thought the git on the left should be a little more involved and the git on the right but closer to center should have a more rounded effect. Maybe a splash of med flange or a roto vibe type effect. In the least, I'd take some of the crisp highs out.

Maybe push that texture git (that comes in around 4:02 ish ?) to the right. Hard right and lower.

I can't record or mix all that well so, I'll leave my thoughts at that. And please note that the song was a pleasant listen and that mood you created was enough for me to wanna nurture it with these hapless suggestions;) :)

Nice song Jeap.

Peace,

Theron.

I'm not gonna be redundant and repeat what everyone else has said. I'd keep the bass where it is though!

I enjoyed this one. I feel really relaxed after hearing it too. Mess with the mix a bit more, but the song is basically done.

yay!!! somebody likes the bass where it is!!!

thanks theron and crawdad.

im really not a bass-happy freak. really.

i could still hear everything else clearly so how could the bass be too loud? ha ha ha!!!

:p

ok theron ill try putting some modulation on those rhythm gits!

and i will try to control the bass!

whale's never cheat???????

how do you know???:p

very cool tune, makes you want to "drift away". i really like your voice on this tune man, i want to hear more of this stuff from ya!!!!!!

thank's

peace

Listening now... first song I've heard tonight where I can actually hear the lead vocal and understand all the lyrics. I'm at 2:08, waiting to hear a change-up or a bridge change...... Damn, it didn't come. Just my opinion but this one needs something extra like a slow drum riff leading to a strong bridge, then back to a closing verse....just my opinion.

even if whales wanted to cheat what would they cheat on?

ha ha i was a little surprised by the voice too. a few years of vocal workouts has paid off! i got some books with tapes and cd's to learn how to sing!

yep i think vocal music should have the voice up top and understandable.

i probly should have a bridge instead of the solo but a bridge did not appear...

:p
