Hi, people

I am planning on building a new PC, and I got pretty much everything planned except for the mobo. Here is a list of what I have so far:

Intel 2.4ghz
ATI Fire GL graphics card
518 mb DRR
Western HD

This PC is gonna be for audio and animation orientated. So, I need to find a steady mobo that doesn't conflict with the stuff I just mentioned. THANK YOU

Emeric:

hey, nice to see you, sorry that I never got around to email you, my buddy and I decided to give it a shot building one ourselves. Nontheless, Thanks for the recommendations on those mobos!

any other suggestions from the others?? Just trying to gather as much info as I can here.

I like my Intel 845EBT. 6 USB 2.0 ports, 3 Firewire and RAID controller onboard.

I have always used Intel boards and never had any kind of compatability problems with OS's or DAW software.

I agree that ASUS is a good motherboard brand. I have several at home and babysit several hundred at work. I have also had good personal experiances with Gigabyte. I had one nasty experiance with an Athlon ECS motherboard that I would rather forget about. I also have an Athlon MSI motherboard that has been stable, although it doesn't get used much.

I have heard good things second-hand about Soyo.

I have also heard a lot of good things about asus, but it might be a good idea to figure out what sound card you will use before you make a decision on a mobo.

matt:

I already have a soundcard(audiophile 2496), and is there anything I should keep in mind when shopping for a mobo with this soundcard?

Also, I planning on having 512mb rdram, as well as a dual motinor setup, do different mobos affect this at all? or it just depends on the graphic card??

Thanks

AL

ASUS is good, soyo too.

Nothing should be a problem as long as your mobo supports it. Right kind of RAM or soundcard that is. Dual monitors are on the video card. I personally would recommend an nVidia card over ATI, but I think that's personal preference.

Barometer:

Glad you stopped by. I got your message in my animation thread, and i will pm you once I get done with tests/projects this week. Yeah, ASUS or SOYO seem to be the top choices here, I am still doing some research on which models righ now tho.

Thanks, people

A1A2 CHECK THIS OUT.

Since you have already got most of your hardware I don't know how much help this will be. But, check out Musician's Friend's web site and look for either an article or review page for an article entitled "Roll your own Thunderbird." You should find some other links and articles that might be of intrest as well.

Keep the faith, Ozlee

Im using an ASUS CLSU II with the audiophile...no problemo's

The Asus P4B266 has been Mondo stable for me and I was very impressed with the documentation and their performance applet which gives you real-time readouts of temps and voltages on the board.

I have a Soyo Dragon Ultra KT333 that has rocked so far. It supports 8 USB 2.0 ports, has LAN, CPU Fan controller and has a hardware monitor utility that tells you CPU and chassis temperature, voltages etc and some other cool features...

I would in the past have recommended paying more dough and getting an Asus or Abit board but when my Asus board (A7M266) went AWOL I bought a cheap Gigabyte board (GA-7VR) that was half the Asus price and yet it is rock solid and shows up even better! (in terms of latency etc.) I think the new chipsets (particularly VIA KT133) are almost universally used. That and better design has lead to far less stability differences between MOBOs. One thing to watch out for some MOBOs are far more memory sensitive than others and in this respect my old ASUS Mobo would take any DDR RAM. In contrast the Gigabyte needs top-quality DDR.

Read AIA2's initial post - he's putting together a P4 system, not an Athlon system.

... and the KT133 is no longer new. Already replaced by KT266a, KT333, and new KT400.

brzilian:

Thanks for pointing out the imcompatablity between GigaByte boards and Pentium cpu. That saves me some not looking into Athlon boards.

Speaking of Athlon boards, are SOYO Dragon boards for Penntium or Athlon??? or both?
and when they say 8 AGP slots, does that mean i can install up to 8 video cards?

Lastly, I am planning on using a dual monitor setup, what's the "term" of that capability on a video card?

THANK YOU ALL!!!
