one more thing, when they say the board supports DDR and SDRM, does that mean it doesn't support RDRAM or????

sorry for all the dumb questions....

I assume it does NOT support RDRAM. I would shift away from RDRAM anyway, it is not going to last long from what I hear. And DDRAM is cheap and fast. Please correct me if this is NOT true :)

one more thing, when they say the board supports DDR and SDRM, does that mean it doesn't support RDRAM or????

Some boards will have slots that support both DDR SDRAM, and the older, but still common SDRAM. It is more common on the better boards to only support one type of memory, be it DDR, SDRAM or RDRAM. If it doesn't say it supports RDRAM, then it does not.

Speaking of Athlon boards, are SOYO Dragon boards for Penntium or Athlon??? or both?

Soyo manufacturers motherboards for both AMD and Intel Processors. Which board you pick is based on what processor you intend to use.

What do you think of Soyo motherboards?

Glad you asked.. :) I've never been a big fan of them, replaced enough of them over the years. I don't see many distributors carrying them, which tells me something.

and when they say 8 AGP slots, does that mean i can install up to 8 video cards?

I think you may be referring to AGP 8X, which is a new spec for the AGP Port, on the motherboard. AGP 4X is the common spec on most machines in the last few years. The 8X versus 4X relates to the bandwidth and speed of data transfer, 4X is faster than 2X, 8X faster than 4X etc.

Lastly, I am planning on using a dual monitor setup, what's the "term" of that capability on a video card?

You would want to buy an AGP video card that has 'dual' head. It has two connectors for attaching two monitors. Matrox make some good ones, about the only product I'll endorse from that company.

Thanks alot, that cleared alot of confusions for me.

Now, when a video card has a DIV out and a regular out, does that mean I can get a little adaptor, and run 2 non-LCD monitors at the same time??

Just to clarify, nearly all motherboard manufactures - ASUS, Gigabyte, Soyo, Abit, etc. etc. - make motherboards for any available type of CPU. Futhermore, they will typically have mainy different boards available for the same CPU, using different chipsets (the other chips besides the CPU that sit on a motherboard) from different manufacturers. So there are many choices out there.

A1A2,

A lot of people here give good solid advice. The article and website I mentioned can give you a comparison of both Athlon and Intel Pentium systems designed for audio use in some detail and specs that work best with audio. Another site that can give you at least a good start if not some of the most acurate information about computers is TECHTV.COM .
There is another site as well "/audiophile " that covers music or audio exclusively. But "the screensavers" do alot of real world testing of components and software and they are independent thinkers in thier evaluations IMHO. Anyone reading this would benifit from checking out "the screen savers". You somtimes might have to word your search differently to make sure that you have cross checked all of thier data base but it is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about pc or mac platforms. By the way they have several systems already desgined for audio that they have built. I hope you take the time to check out the sites I have mentioned. There is more to the selection of components and the ability of software to utilize it at this time that you might find interesting before you buy. Stability problems can be caused by alot of different problems with any system and one of the most basic and most important is a good solid power supply some where in the 400 watt range for the mobo as well as the wiriing in your home, studio, etc. Power fluctuations from your utility company should be protected against as well, they are a situation that can effect stability problems.
It is sometimes better to share information sources than to just give recomendations on computer hardware. It may take a little
time to check out these sites but anyone reading this that has not already heard of these sites should "check" them out.

Hey, I really appreciate you putting your efford typing and informing me with these info. I will go through those sites this weekend, and I am sure I will benifit from reading them :) Thank You!

Do you have your music posted anywhere? I would love to listen to them and maybe give you some reviews in return(not that I am an expert or anything)
