Hello all, hopefully you can give me some help.
I feel sort of dumb about asking this, because this isn't my first work recording. But I'm using a yamaha MT8X analog 8-track recorder to work on a personal album project this summer while staying with my family in California and the manual is stuck back at home in NC. I got all the stuff I needed, got everything hooked up, etc. Then it all got down to it, I activate track 1 to record some guitar... and what the heck, I can't get it to just RECORD! If you're familiar with this one it's got a weird button that's the record and the pause button, and when I tried the usual methods, holding down play and clicking the recoird, maybe good olf fashion pressing record.. nothing worked. Am I missing something obvious? It may sound like a dumb question, but I've just been trying to get this to work and I can't seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong.. Does anyone have any advice? Maybe even if you're not familiar with this exact model of 8-track but just a trick of the trade? HELP ME PLEASE!!

I'm not familiar with that particular recorder, but I would try pressing down the PLAY and RECORD buttons at the same time.

I hope that works. Good luck.

Make sure the record safety tab isn't punched out on the top of the cassette. If it is, cover it with a piece of Scotch tape and try again.

Press REC SELECT

If you are recording channel 1 press REC/PAUSE>>REC SELECT CHANNEL 1>>then press PLAY when you are ready to begin.
