Two thoughts on the reefer song:
1-I think this is the first reggae tune I've ever heard that doesn't have a quarter-note triplet figure anywhere! [ like in The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger"...that delay guitar thing] I guess one could do without it...but I think it's conspicuous by its absense here.
2-The guitar leftish is way round in the EQ belly, and sustains longer that the norm...and is way loud. Usually I hear more of a short, palm-muted 'chank; chank'' stroke....a lot crispier. There's one spot where you play 1 & 3 downbeats on the electric keys....like a single note? The usual is triads. I think you were laying on the chords through 90% of the tune.
These are conventions I hear in the genre, usually.
Bonus: The drums are kinda lazy. A double on the bass drum thingy, once in a while, would change it up nicely...as well as ...something different...more.
For Ideas, you might want to listen to a guy like, say, Stewart Copeland: lots of little doodads and changed-up textures all over the place that add interest to the proceedin's. Or you could overlay percussion figures over what you have to get the usual rythmic reggae dipsy-doodles...off-beat & triplet filligree.
But, if the tune's what you're hearing, thats all good. It's just a little boring after a while. Too much Barney the Purple Dinosaur, and not enough slickish grit and clever rythmic weaving ...for my taste. It's like a tune I'd hear on a kids' show. A little edge and darkness? FWIIW
The quality of the recorded sounds is fab.
