Here's a wee bit of reggae. Comments would be welcome :

That's really a pretty good song. The mix is decent, although it's got some low-mid energy stack up going on. I put the stero mix into my DAW and pulled a wide scoop of EQ out from around 200-500 and it cleaned up a lot. The bottom end got a lot tighter. I think the "chinga-ching" clean guitars could be brighter/less roomy. Also, there's some timing problems with the percusiion - like at 2:27. I thought my computer burped or something. Overall pretty good though.

I like the song too. I like where you have the vocals. Not out in front, but clearly in its own space.

Not a fan of those drums, but I understand ya gotta make do with what you have.

thanks for shring.

my least favourite genre but this was very easy listening...has a real crossover pop vibe about it which makes it easily accessible...the girls voice was very nice too

cant comment on the mix as Greg's probably nailed it but this is a very good effort :)

Vox sits pretty well, has a nice space in the mix
Guitars are too "fat" (in a bad way) in the low mid region .Cutting in the track (around 350hz) will helps with the reggae "stacatto thing".
Backing vocals probably will be better with a shorter time/room.
Bottom end is strong and good for the stylel, altough some cut in the 50/70 region would helps.

Overall, Good job:cool:

One nit: The 4-beat is mostly left vacant, all the time. And it's real hard to find the 'one' because of that. Only thing I'd suggest is for a snare hit on the 4, early in the opening measure of major parts, to establish the time for the listener. It's a little confusing without a solid 2/4 reference, at least once, to get the listener on the right groove....or at least this listener.

Good Feedback

I simply don't believe it!!!
At last, decent constructive crits. :D

Thoughts on this one :

Almost gave up on the first song because my computer hates quick time for some reason but it finaly started. The song was cool. I like the feeling of the tempo and mix. Good job.

I just had to dig deep into my pocket as well to buy a new PC. A home studio costs!!!!

tell me about it..I set a budget back in Feb to last a few upgrades etc...sold my bloody motorbike...there isn't much left of it and I still don't even have a proper room to record in..doh :o

btw the second songs making me laugh....

I think the guitar needs turned down a notch and some more verb on it

good fun stuff :)

Two thoughts on the reefer song:

1-I think this is the first reggae tune I've ever heard that doesn't have a quarter-note triplet figure anywhere! [ like in The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger"...that delay guitar thing] I guess one could do without it...but I think it's conspicuous by its absense here.

2-The guitar leftish is way round in the EQ belly, and sustains longer that the norm...and is way loud. Usually I hear more of a short, palm-muted 'chank; chank'' stroke....a lot crispier. There's one spot where you play 1 & 3 downbeats on the electric keys....like a single note? The usual is triads. I think you were laying on the chords through 90% of the tune.
These are conventions I hear in the genre, usually.

Bonus: The drums are kinda lazy. A double on the bass drum thingy, once in a while, would change it up nicely...as well as ...something different...more.

For Ideas, you might want to listen to a guy like, say, Stewart Copeland: lots of little doodads and changed-up textures all over the place that add interest to the proceedin's. Or you could overlay percussion figures over what you have to get the usual rythmic reggae dipsy-doodles...off-beat & triplet filligree.

But, if the tune's what you're hearing, thats all good. It's just a little boring after a while. Too much Barney the Purple Dinosaur, and not enough slickish grit and clever rythmic weaving ...for my taste. It's like a tune I'd hear on a kids' show. A little edge and darkness? FWIIW

The quality of the recorded sounds is fab.

Yeah...it's good.

I like the lead voice. Very laid back.

The mix does seem to be a little off/muddy. Could try again maybe.

Like the background vocals as well. Steel drums a la UB40 would be cool.
