ok, my equipment is very very basic: Samson C01 condensor mic, Presonus Tubepre preamp, and Acid 4.0
1. I have trouble getting my meters up when im recording anything. I can usually get it to stay around -27 db. If I turn my drive or gain up on my preamp then theres just to much background noise. Am I doing something wrong or is it that my preamp sucks?
2. Whenever I hit the bassier strings on my acoustic, the sound will distort without it near clipping. It did not always do this, it only started acting up recently.
3. Would it be worth it to buy a new preamp around $200, or will i not get that much improvement from the presonus i have now?
now some channel question...
4. in what instances would you need to group tracks together in a channel or is it something you should always do?
5. The only thing I do with channels is to group a couple of tracks so i can put the same effects or whatever on those certain tracks. What else is there to channels?
6. And I've read that people will put compression on a certain channel and then put another compressor onto a track in that same channel. What is the point of this?
Thank you so much guys, and sorry if some of the questions are to broad to answer. Thank you!
