Alright. Basically, im having drop out problems in Cakewalk. Ive been having these problems for quite sometime now but i have just been putting up with them. I know alot about computers, and even run a computer business. Which is why im so baffled to why i cant figure out how to fix this problem i dont think i should be having. Basically, i get it when recording more then 2 tracks at a time (on overwrite). It will record for probably about 10 seconds (varying) and then it will drop out. I mostly see it on the drums when im recording 7 tracks at a time. Everytime the drummer decides to start over on the song, i have to erase what he did before, then record. Ive also had some problems when just playing back about 12 tracks without effects. This is actually a new problem that i think is associated with the new sonar. But im wondering if the problems are related.

Now what baffles me, is i think my computer should have the necessary power to record like this without trouble. Drop outs make me not want to record at all because they frustrate me so much, unless of course im loading up on the effects. But when i get them when everythings dry, then it really frustrates me. Especially when before i wouldnt have problems like this when running 16 tracks (compared to 12).

Now ill tell you whats in my system.

Intel Pentium III 800MHz
256M PC-133 RAM
6.4GB 5400 ATA33 HD (system files/programs)
15 GB 7200 ATA100 HD (audio)
35 GB 7200 ATA100 HD (backup)
2 Delta 44 Cards (running simultaneously, insync)
Cakewalk Sonar (recorder, have option of Pro Audio 9.03 also)
Win ME (have option of Win98, and Win2000)

I thought the 7 In recording part would be fixed with more RAM. But that didnt help a bit. BTW, i just formatted the system harddrive last week, so it basically clean. Ive almost done all the optimizing with the OS as i know of. If anyone can help me out i would be very grateful.

Did you adjust the latency slider? Not having it in front of me, I can't tell you where to go, but its in the manual in a few places. Check there, this has the capacity to be exactly your problem.
Let me know, I'll open up Sonar and play around with some settings if you need to.
Peace,
Paul
