I was recently issued a new laptop for work. I also use it to mix down/record some tracks 
. It's a DELL Latitude D630. Nothing special - no firewire, just USB and crappy Sigma Tel soundcard. This latest model came with a 2-prong AC adapter, instead of the 3-prong one with my previous laptop (same model previous version). There is virtually NO NOISE from the laptop like there was with the old adapter. I just recorded with the adapter plugged in - forgot to unplug it like I usually do. Listened back and no hum/buzz like I used to get. I don't know why the difference but it extends my recording time (unlimited) compared to battery. Finally some good news - knock on wood....
