I know that there's an infinite number of variations, but I need some common or key settings to start off with and build upon or deviate from .

When recording say vocals and acoustic guitar on separate tracks, are there any guidelines?? For example should I record say the guitar from the stereo input, or on 2 tracks one from left and one from the right input and then pan them separately?? If so, what are the usual settings (%) that I'd Pan guitar .....then how should I Pan vocals on top of that, and should I do vocals in the same way??? Stereo input or 2 tracks, one from each mono input??

I've also been playing around with inverting one of the channels when I've been playing things back. It sounds cool but I dont fully understand it. What am I doing here and is this a good application to be used in a mix for a final product.

Thanks very much for the help.. BJ

those things i usually record mono....ill make one pass of guitar and record it...then ill take a second pass and play the same basic part, but maybe play at a different play on the neck with a capo or just use different inversions......pan these two out left and right, using your ears to determine how far....record the vocal and leave it dead center....if you can record a second vocal take pretty close, you can do that to thicken it up and leave it center also or pan the ever so slightly right off center from each other.....

I like to record one stereo track and then 2 more mono panned left/right.
