so i'm new to all this...

i'd like to learn howto create drum loops and such.. and learn sampling...

what do i need to start playing around with making drum loops and putting together tracks..

is it best to get hardware... or software...

for starters whats good for creating drum loops?

I started playin on actual drums, but other than that, you might want to start listenin to some of your favourite jams, and tryin to emulate some of the shit you hear. then get yourself some kind of beat machine, and start to fuck around with that, because tru creativity comes when you start to actually hear shit in yo head. I started with alesis drum machines 10 years ago, but if you play keys and stuff, it'll come alot quicker. Timing is everything if your starting out making drum tracks. The drums is the heart of a hiphop track, (I guess any type of modern music), but for me, definately it was the alesis beat machines that I learned all the ins and outs of making nice beats, you get everything in one machine, step editing, the ability to make numerous drum kits, midi compatibility, quantisizing is big when you starting, different fills for each beat, snare fills, ability to pan every drum----------just everything, once you learn the ins and outs of a beat machine, you on your way! But like I said, the first step is to start hearin those beats in your head, how I started out was just ideas and beat boxing and shit. All depends on your ability level though.
 
in my honest opinion, for beat making, hardware is the way to go to get started---------then move on to software ish
 
sampling just comes from your ears, and looping parts of other peoples songs, you might want to just look into a hardware sampler if you don't play no instruments, because if thats what you want, thats all you''ll need.
 
well i'm learning to play bass.

so for a beginner.. whats a good piece of hardware to purchase for getting into making drum loops.. obviously this is just a hobby right now.. so my budget is a low as possible.

and what are good online stores to buy equipment..

If you go the software route, then you should pick up Acid Pro 3.0 and Sound Forge. ;)
 
You might also want to take some time to scour, and search this site (HR.COM).

There is a TON of information here. :)

so far been checking out drum machines and some other hardware. a bit pricey.


think i'll try to software route for starters.
