Finally got an Ashbory a couple of weeks ago and have been doing a lot of research on them.

Apparently, the notorious "snapping G string" problem is solved by using an inexpensive replacement made of better material, which I've ordered and received. There's enough for four replacement Gs and the seller has had one G string on his Ashbory for the past year with no problems or breakage. You can order here via PayPal. Service was excellent and prompt on my order.

It appears that the original problem stemmed from a bad supply when FMIC started selling these string sets. Later batches work better, and the Tavener G stock (above) works best.

These are really very interesting and worthwhile instruments. Contrary to my expectations, I really love mine. Don't let this unfortunate and exaggerated problem dissuade you from trying one of these basses!
