Reading a few threads here and there I've come to the conclusion that I stand alone in Solidtube ownership (and if not, then people don't like talking about their solidtubes).

I think it's a very nice mic despite AKG's reputation with their newer mics and for the price I paid for it I don't think I have any room to really complain. I'm just wondering why I'm alone in this aspect?

Actually, I rather like the Dark Jedi! Just remove the silly internal pop filter and put a real one in front of it. It was made to handle high SPL's, and it just doesn't work well on quiet sources. It's simply a fine vocal mic for Blues, Metal, Opera, or anything that's LOUD! I probably wouldn't put it up for Sara Watkins, but for Aretha, it would rock!

Really? I've used it for close micing a male singer singing softly and I found it to be very delightful. The vocals just sink right into the mix so well. I've tried to get the same effect with other mics, but they come across as (for lack of a better term) "peppery" rather than smooth.

Frankly, for a quiet voice, I prefer NTK. I've never heard SP's T-3, but I sure would like to.-Richie
