Solaris Mic On Vocals

Hello, Has anyone used the M-Audio Solaris on male vocals? What are
your opinions on it's performance? I'm looking for a multi-pattern mic that
can cover acoustic guitar nicely and also deliver a decent vocal. I've got enuff bright mics....i'm thinking more neutral. Any suggestions for mics other than the Solaris ($300 to $500)....and observations on the Solaris very much appreciated. I don't have a dedicated preamp yet, just use the ones in my Allen Heath mixer. And I have already looked at opinions on other multipatterns....but there is not a lot of talk on the Solaris (except Massive Master) I just need a bit more feedback. If Massive is listening, have you tried the Solaris on male vocals? thanks KK

Massive does like the Solaris, but I've heard good things from others about it too. Have you trialed the SM7B or RE20? Personally, I love the way my voice sound on the SM7B.

wheelema, I haven't, but the Sm7b recently came to my attention from (from surfing the forums) and does sound like a possibilty for a "different" vocal mic. I haven't seen any references to it's being used on acoustic instruments though. I had been thinking of ordering a Solaris and either a AT4040 or a SM7b. Funny you should mention the Shure dynamic. I'd like to try the Shure
just to see what it does with voice (sung)....some of my material is a little Knopfler-esque....might be good on that (?). What sort of voice would you say you have....if you had to. Are you tenor or bari or Paul Simon or Joe Cocker....or Dylan or Leonard Cohen or........? I see the Sm7 is put in front of a lot of power-singing rockers. I'm more in the Simon-Dylan-Harrison camp....though I can vary my voice quite a bit. In any case, thanks for the reply. Kenton

I dabble in voice over work and, if I try, the SM7B turns my baritone into the Wrath Of God. Very commanding, crisp, nuanced.
