Software to program R&B, Hip Hop etc. beats with???

Hi people! I need you guys to reccomend which software is best for a newbie to get started programming beats with.

Just to make life easy... I have a desktop PC with a 1.10 GHZ AMD duron processor and 120 MB of RAM.

The plan is to evenutally upgrade to 256 MB of ram - plus I have a midiman oxygen8 on the way to trigger stuff...

So what's the easiest/best way to start out? I was thinking reason, but now people been teeling me that Reason will be hard for a beginninger to decipher.... so what do you guys say?

FruityLoopz? Cubase?

ACID Pro 4 is a very powerful looping program with a lot of loop CDs available from a lot of differenct companies. You can use them as they are or chop them up. You can buy ACID 4 for $149. it's a steal for that price.

Oh, yeah...it's also real easy to use.

If you don't plan on using complete loops, but plan on chopping samples or just playing keyboard sounds, then I suggest getting Cubase or even an easier sequencer and some softsynths. There are millions of softsynths available. if you wanna get an old school sound, Oddity and Moog Modular V are dope! But, Cubase even comes with some softsynths as well. Check out www.kvr-vst.com to find out what's available and so on for your needs. Try to cop as many freebie VSTIs as you can in the begining though.

I agree with tdukex.

Acid 4.0 Pro or Fruity Loops Pro version 3.56 would be the easiest to learn for a beginner.

But guys....

Hmmm... so can I do the WHOLE beat on Acid or FruityLoopz? Or can I only mix together a bunch of loops?

I wasn't really leaning toward too many loops... more thinking along the lines of programming individual drum parts, along with bass keys and maybe some sample sounds here and there...

I guess what i really need is a workstation IN the damn computer

(P.S. I've programmed songs on MPC-2000 and a bit with a Logic-to-Midi setup before... so maybe I'm not quite a BEGINNER... not totally green anyway. I'm no sound engineer, but I understand the basics of programming - does this help?)

Yes, you can do either one, or both.

Acid and FLP are basically workstations in your comp.

From Trackers to Sequenzers....

The Best u can use in my opinion is:

Fruity Loops
or Reason

for beats, and

Samplitude
Cubase
Logic Audio

for the Recording/Sequenzing
