software sequencers for LIVE perf

does anyone out here do live software sequencing?

if so... what do you use and why?

here's another good question; there appears to be a dearth of these products available, why is that? instabilities in modern OSes, not a viable market, etc?

i'm getting ready to start doing a live set and need the info. thanks for your help.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I sure wouldn't trust a computer to track a live performance. Not unless it was a REALLY good computer. There's just too many things that could go wrong for my comfort.

For live performance tracking I would probably recomend an ADAT or a Hard Disk multi-track recorder. Depending what equipment you're familiar with they'll probably be easier to use anyway. And you can always dump the tracks on computer afterwards for further editing.

If it's just for midi, software might be okay and would of course let you do midi editing afterwards, but if you're doing audio too it could be more trouble than it's worth.
 
Well, I suspect the question was about MIDI sequencers that are good for using in live performances, not in software for recording live performances.

A MIDI sequencer for live performances would let you change and modify the sequence while running, instead of just playing a fixed sequence from start to end.

I know of no such MIDI sequencers. Somebody is making a softwrae called "Live" but it seems mainly geared at sampleplaying and not MIDI.
 
Yeah, I've read the press stuff about "Live"... it's by this company called 'Ableton' and it does look like it's more intended for live audio and not MIDI.

The funny thing is that there were many live software sequencers (functionally like the MPC2k, RM1x/RS7000, MMT8, etc) back in the day of the Commodore 64... but now there seem to be almost none.

Do any of you use any software for live performances!??! I know I've heard of people using Logic and Fruityloops. Can anyone confirm this? Heard of anything else?
 
Yamaha Rm1x and even better, the Yamaha RS7000. Best live hardware sequencers on the market.
Does standard sequencing and pattern sequencing. Patterns and controllers can be selected and tweaked on the fly.
 
The key word here being "Software"... I mentioned the Yamaha product line in my previous post. There are many good hardware sequencers out there. I'm looking for software solutions to the same issue.
