Hi, I am just getting started here and I am truly at the point where I don't even know what I don't know. I have a MOTU 828MkII and a G4 iBook (1.2Ghz, 1.25G ram). I'd like to start recording some live music to be mixed later. Mostly coffee house acoustic shows etc. I plan on taking direct outs from the onsite mixer and recording to a firewire drive.

I'd really appreciate some thoughts on an appropriate software choice. Which ones are well suited to the Mac?. Which ones would be best suited for the 828? I'm not looking to break the bank here, but I don't mind paying to get a quality product. I'm currently considering Logic Express.

Any feedback would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Brad

It's hard to go past Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/

Shareware so you dl the full version. If you like it, pay the man his $40. Bargain

Um, there is no Reaper for Mac is there?

If you a comfortable with logic express, stay with it. It's a fine package and logic pro is about as good as it gets. You might want to look at Digital Performer also

Logic or Ableton I think. Ableton Live 5 is very powerful.

Thanks for the replies, appreciated. I will check out Ableton as well. Has anyone had any experience with Mackie Tracktion2 ? The price is right and the marketing glossy stuff looks good. Then again the marketing glossy stuff *always* looks good.

Tracktion 2 is pretty cool. If you have never used any DAW software before, thats the one to get, very good learning curve and has all the power you need
