hmmm when was the last time n-track crashed for me?....i don't remember....although that is a valid point. The biggest issue with it is stability, but the builds are constantly improving (not only do they keep improving but they are free). I havn't had n-track crash in quite some time!

I keep looking at programs like cubase, but really, this is a full fledged program. I can see how in a pro studio you wouldn't want it because of stability issues, but from my POV, I'll be sticking with it, because the money I save can be put towards toher gear.

I could never get MIDI to work with N-track, which, right off the bat eliminated its virtual instrument capabilities. As soon as I moved to XP it crashed every third or fourth time I'd hit record. I got this wierd error where the GUI turned every color of the rainbow. As far as updates go, sometimes an update improved my stability and sometimes it made it worse.

N-track was so bad I could feel my personality change from basically mellow to basically angry. It was that bad. Since I got Sonar my life has improved dramatically.

Vegas 3!

track in vegas 3
mix in vegas 4 ( for now)

I use protools LE digi001 with all the Waves plugins. I also use my old adats with the digi001.

FOR RIGHT NOW

it's Wavelab, great for live stereo recording. I've got cubase too but not into the midi. yet...

Too bad it crashes every five minutes.
N-Track never crashes on me.Never.Of course,I'm not putting many demands on it.I rarely use more than 12 tracks and 4 or 5 pluggins, and I don't have a lot of use for midi. It's very stable for what I use it for, luckily.'Tis all I can afford!

lol, I haven't messed with midi at all with my new machine, and Im not even sure I really need it. I just llike real instruments. However, yea, I can run 80 tracks (yes that is 80, don't ask, I'm still new at this) no prob ;)...many with plugins. I would dare say it is much more stable tahn it has been in the past.

Vegas is the shit.
I wonder, though, with their recent emphasis on video production, whether you're paying for a bunch of features you'll never use, at the expense of the further development of features you will use.

I guess I'm assuming, Chessrock, that you're not doing a lot of video post production type work.

does it really matter? ignore the video stuff
its not like theres an alternative app out there if you need to do this type of editing of audio that vegas does so well

the newest version of vegas gives you buss tracks and fx parameter automation

Vegas just loads up sessions extremely fast, saves things very fast and never skips, no matter how many simultaneous tracks I'm recording, even at the lowest latency settings.
