I agree with Barefoot.
Sometimes, we just need simple sound and work on -not so need- to be outstanding sonic quality things. And I began learn sampling with knowing Soundfonts. Spending big cash on sampler without knowing what you expect to get is wasting money. So many times I saw people asking about the highest end quality sampler to do their tracks, but happy enough end up using Soundfonts. So if your ears can't compare the difference and your client doesn't understand either, why would you be hurry using one ? Now I use sampler only for serious recording, and still playing around with Soundfonts to do local radio spot jingle...
