Hi All: My delta 1010 is humming something awful. I have been looking at lots of audio interfaces and the price ranges are quite large. So, what is the difference between a delta 1010 and some of the higher end units? The delta 1010 did me fine and I would like to replace it with another delta 1010 or something similar. I record 4-8 tracks live, have preamps, no midi, and just need this thing to act as a go between my preamps/mics and the computer. Any suggestions? Thanks. Walter

PS: I am a recording junkie and need to get something el pronto.

Unless you have a million dollar room and monitors, you're not going to notice any difference between a 1010 and anything else.

Has the unit always hummed?

Do you have EVERYTHING plugged into the same wall plug???
(most common cause of humming is bad power or using different power circuits...)
Try this FIRST: Start with a basic setup. Put your computer, the 1010 power supply and anything else used for recording on a power strip plugged into one wall socket.

Could also be the power supply for the 1010.

thanks for the reply! No, everything is plugged into an outlet, yet they all are on the same circut on the breaker box. I have tried different plugs in the house and it hums. I can run my guitar amp cranked with no hum on the same plugs the 1010 hums. Walter

is there a radio shack equivalent of the 1010 power cord? I could buy one and see if that helps. I also took the unit apart and saw no leakage on the capacitors.

I'm sorry, that is absolutely false. Here is a direct quote from an email I got from one of my customers who had been using a 1010 after receiving his Lynx Aurora from me:
"what a huge difference. despite my not-great monitoring situation, it's so much easier to hear what's going on in a mix & to hear subtle changes."

I get similar comments from people switching from 1010's to RME and even to MOTU units. I switched from a 1010 to an 828mkII myself about 6-7 years ago and there was a gigantic difference in my mixes and what I could translate. Have since moved to an Apogee/RME setup where there is further improvement.

I bought a new delta 1010 and there is no more hum. Dead quiet. There is a noticable sound difference as well. I think when I bought mine used it was already having problems. Being my first computer soundcard, I just figured it was the way it was. thanks everyone for the help with this problem! Walter

I looked into some of the other suggestions here but went with the delta 1010 mainly because I know how to use it. I just don't need any new learning curves right now. I was born before the computer thing, do no video games, cell phone, texting, big screen tv... I had to really torque down on myself to learn to record on the computer.
