Being new to the whole 'home recording' thing I do not have too much gear. Basically I just plug whatever into my mixer, than into my computer.

What is the best possible way for me to record drums? Basically, what I try to do is 'pre-mix' the drums through the mixer, than record it as one track. Is there any way I could feed each mic into a different track? Do soundcards have the ability to do this? If not, what is the best way to record the drums all at once?

Sorry for asking so many questions, any tips/pointers/links would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Multi Input / Output soundcards certainly can.

For example the maudio delta 1010 has 8 analog inputs and outputs. This would allow you to record 8 individual mic sources, provided you have a mixer with 8 preamps and a way of outputing 8 individual signals.

In addition to the hardware, you need multitracking software, Sonar, Cubase, N-Track etc.

I should have previously mentioned I have Cubase... so if I get the sound card, Cubase will seperate each input into seperate tracks for me?

Yes. You can assign what input of the soundcard each track is recording from.

That is absolutely fantastic, and exactly what I was wondering, thanks for the quick response.
