so an sm58 sounds identical to a u87?

so I recorded two guys today with a shure sm58. I ran both tracks through mic-modeller. The first voice modelled an akg c12, and it sounded very different. THe second voice modelled a u87 and I could not hear a difference when I switched in and out of the effect.

So is an sm58 a good replacement for a u87?

The capsules are the same, only they trim off the excess on the SM58. This doesnt change the sound at all, of course, and the internal componetry is exactly the same. The Extra $2000 covers the neat body style and the shockmount.

Hey CJ... isn't that kinda logic as flawed as presuming that a Mesa Boogie and a Fender Tweed sound the same because when you ran a guitar thru a POD's Fender Blues preset then switched to the Mesa Boogie setting, it still sounded the same???

CJ.....do not assume that any modeling device, especially a mic miodeler, gives you an exact relica of an original. That is foolish. If I replace the headstock logo on a a Squier Strat with a Fender Sticker its still a squier.........
 
They use a little more airplane glue on that particular model.:rolleyes:

I know that you are well versed in mics , so could you kindly explain yourself more so that we can all learn. I dont know where youre going with the last post.

Since you know a lot about mics, can you tell me the difference between the modelled mic and a real u87? The differences that you can hear i.e
