Snare help!!!-SM58 in a crunch!

I found a lil' peice of wood from a shelf, and placed it under my snare stand and it makes the world of difference. I have decided that i am going to build a drum riser!

Hmmmm...that's got me thinking. I DO have a short riser at my studio, but it's carpeted. I think I'm gonna go try this.
 
Richard, I'm gonna post tracks after I try this. I was at a studio where they had a plywood floor with strips of wood to hold the drums in place. I really didn't think of it at the time, but it makes perfect sense. My last rehearsal/recording room was hardwood floors. Thanks again. Mebbe I'll post a before/after...
