Ok heres whats up. I am getting a small setup going and had a couple questions. Right now I am planing on having it consist of: 2 mics (Shure SM-58) for vocals. 2 guitars, running to seperate amps, and a drum machine. I need help on how to set it all up ect... I want to have 2 monitors going. Are those just for vocals? or can should i get all of it running through them. I am also going to get 2 speakers ro run everything to. To do this do I am planing on getting a small mixer and hook everything into it and run it from their to the speakers and monitors. Will that work. Do i need anything else? How should the setup work?

Thanks
Jas

Oh and the music style is Emo. Like: A Static Lullaby, Thursday, Senses Fail but also calmer stuff like criteria, Brand New, and Mock Orange

SOrry Stage. I know its a recording forum but i figured people here would know

yeah it'll work......as a fan of the music, I'll ask why no bass player and drummer but i know how hard it is to find them so i figure thats probably the reason. now are you trying to run everyone through the mixer or not? you'll definitely need to run the drum machine and vocals through your monitors. but i would go ahead and try to mic the guitars and run them through your main speakers also to fill out the sound....i think it would sound kinda cheesy with two guitars playing free and everything else running through your stage speakers

ok....

well, i use almost the exact set up you are talking about. here is what i do

I run my stuff direct into the board.

both mikes into the channels on xlr cables, CH1 & CH2
(i only have 1 guitar), from the digi-tech into the board in stereo CH 3 & CH 4
(you would probably want to mike both of your cabinets) and get that into the board.
my drum machine into the board in stereo CH5 & CH 6

Now if you dont buy powered speakers, or a powered board (meaning an audio amplifier built in) you will need power amps for the speakers.

if you guys are doing harmony or whatever, i would set up 2 monitor mixes.

1 mix would have a little drum & guitar, A LITTLE of your voice, and your partners vocal loudest.

set his up the oppisite. make your voice louder in HIS monitor.

Send the 2 vocals. the 2 amp cabs miked, and the drums all FOH mixed to sound good.

your are on the right track....just dont forget about needing amps for the speakers

Thanks so much. I just have one question I know its going to sound stupid but what do you mean amps for the speakers? And what do you mean when you say mike the cabinets? Sorry I am pretty new to this. And would I run the guitar and vocals to the monitors after running it through the board? And would I run to both the monitors and the speakers?

And yea we can't find a drummer/bass player.

Thanks
Jas

well, first off, when we say mike the cabintet...

you usually just put a microphone up to the speaker grill of the guitar amplifier, and run the mike to the board. this puts your guitar sound into the PA system. Running the guitar amp on stage is OK, but this way you get a better balanced sound.

Yes, you would probably add guitars and vocals and drums into the "MONITOR MIX". That is one of the things with a mixer. it usually has a MONITOR send for every channel. you can control the monitor mix via this knob, separate from the main mix.

as for the amps.....come on dude.. you cant plug a mike into a speaker and expect it to work. You have to have amplifiers. what do you reckon the guitar amplifier does......

if you dont have a powered board (not meaning AC power, but AUDIO AMPLIFIER), or self powered speakers (once again, AUDIO), you must use external power amplifiers.

i use 4 external amps, actually 1 stereo amp (2 channels), and 2 mono amps for the 2 separate monitor mixes.
