Small guitar amps

hi y'all,
only just inside ...
i have a pro junior. it's wonderful and loud. but as stated before: a great recording amp.
for a fender it doens't have the usual 6l6-type tubes, but el-somethings (?!). these sound more 'marshall' than 'fender' imho.
a friend of mine recently bought a 'blues junior'. wonderful little b******d, too!
you have more (tone)cotrol with this one.
you'll have a hard decision to make choosing between those two!

monty, thanks but I'm looking for tone not volume.
I mentioned the volume because it's very powerful for such a small amp. People have told me Eric Clapton used one on one of his albums. Two 6L6GC's and three 12AX7A's.

Thanks for the Pro Junior tip, does the Pro Junior uses a pair of EL-84's?

And thanks again everyone for all the wonderful small tube type guitar amp suggestions.

No DJL, the peavey is a solid state amp....the best solid state i've heard so far.

I also have a Fender hot rod deville tube amp that sounds great...but, with some tweaking the peavey will hang with it in a studio setting.

And outside of a studio setting, it won't hang with the Fender tube amp because of why? Or will it hang with the Fender Hot Rod in a live setting also? Thanks again for your help.

Wow, two 6L6GC's and three 12AX7A's. It's been a long time sense I've heard a Pignose, I need to listen to one again. Thanks for the info.

the pro junior got el84's, just checked and they still smell lovely ...!

I love the smell of nice warm tubes, and their nice in the winter. :)

That Gibson Explorer is 15 watts rms across one 12 inch speaker, all tube, spring reverb plus tremolo. I wish they still made them.
Wish you luck on finding one. Dani

I'm still looking, thanks.

yeah, love this one, 'cause you can have the smell of them tubes at home!
and it's loud enough for those small gigs.
the little one keeps on going.
once had a gig where the pro was on a barstool on a pool table. those gigs where half of the band is on the table and the rest in front ...
at one point the pro fell of the stool and of the table, but kept going!
haven't even replaced the tubes ...

talking of small amps:
i own a old ampeg reverberocket.
think it has 6v6's or sumpin'.
really nice amp with spring-reverb and (tube)tremelo. this one blends amazingly.
not one you use as a single 'lead' amp, but it suits very, very fine in (like)two-guitar bands.
i think (haven't checked..., lazy sunday afternoon!) that ampeg makes a small combo nowadays. might check it out.
another two eurocents!

happy amphunting!

I've got to tell you, this amp hunting is turning into a new hobby for me. lol. It's fun. Also, what amazes me is how much different a guitar can sound through each different amp. One of my friends (who plays guitar) loves my little guitar amp room, I can't keep him out of there. lol.

I would have to say get a ProJunior or a Blues Junior if you can afford another Fender. I have a Blues Junior but am going to get a Pro Junior to run next to it. The ProJunior is probably the better "studio" amp, but the reverb on the BJ is very useful sometimes (even thought they say don't record with EFX). It has a very interesting "corridor" effect.

...and neither of these have to be cranked to sound good. I leave the master volume at 10 sometimes and put the Volume at 2 or 3, the adjust the overall volume / tone with my guitar knobs. Very, VERY clean (but quiet, but who cares) to dirty as a mofo.

I just found a pretty cool little portable amp at the swap meet (flea market). I’m not implying that this has anything to do with this thread, but this little amp I found says NCI which must be the brand, and the model appears to be GA12. The cool thing about it besides it’s small (9.5” x 10.5” x 6.5”) size, is that it runs off either 8 D cells, or a 12V AC adaptor, so it’s completely portable, and even has gain and master pots, 5” speaker, and headphone jack. Made in Taiwan of course.

could that GA12 be a national?
i think these transitor-amps were built in the seventies. some kind of 'mini-twin' lookalike, isn't it?

You couldn’t just leave it alone…you had to pester me and pester me until I finally had to take a photo…I hope you’re happy now…now GET OFF MY BACK!!!

Hehe…sorry, I thought I was still in the cave. It certainly is well preserved if it was around in the 70’s. Cute little amp.

in a live gig the fender tube amp and a boss blues driver is hard to beat for my taste. The peavey takes more tweaking to get the right tone. I like to just plug in and play when i do a show and the hot rod deville is better for that.

That makes sense. Thank you for your help.

The Vox Pathfinder is the best dollar for dollar value that you will find.
