Marshall makes a 15 watt tube amp?!?!?!??!! I thought the lowest watt tube they had was 40.

Congrats on the Deluxe Reverb! They're wonderful amps. Now go find a Marshall Studio 15 for the same amount of money! I mean it, you can find them for about $450.00.

Perfect. That's the little Marshall I was looking for. Thanks

I just found a Sudio 15 on Ebay. That thing looks awsome. I might have to get one. Someday.

Yeah, I know. It was at $405 last time I checked. Don't tell everyone. lol. Thanks again.

You have nothing to be sorry about, and thank you again for your help. :)

that deluxe is a sweet thang....ya shoulda got a blues jr like the blue bear said....its kinda in between a fender and a vox...el-84's on the output...a 'fat' boost, master volume, you can make it scream like a top-boost ac or shimmer like a deluxe....my favorite and under $400 new......

First--congrats on the Deluxe reverb! Second, the Studio 15 WAS the Marshall I was trying to think of.

Those Reverend amps are supposed to be the ticket from what I have heard.

The 22 watt Boogie was called the Studio 22.

I shoulda mentioned the Blues Jr. myself. I have a Pro Jr. which is its stripped down cousin and I have had some good luck with that amp in the studio. Since you already bought the Deluxe, its kinda redundant to have the Blues Jr. Just get a nice overdrive pedal for the real dirty stuff and you should have a lot of options. Happy searching!

I've got a Silverface (70s) Fender Champ. 6 watts of tube fury. Bought it from a harmonica player for 70 bucks. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. I hear a lot of famous records have been made using Champs. I sure like the way mine sounds. If you can find one for something like that price, it's worth having around your studio even if you buy another amp, too.

I know a guy who has 3 marshall combo's from very small to medium he is looking to unload. If you are interested I will find out the model #'s for you and put you in touch. He tried to pon them of on me the other day but I have 3 guitar amps already.

Are you in the U.S.? If so ehat state?

Maybe, I'm still looking for a "Marshall Studio 15" at the right price. Please ask him. I'm in California, USA. Thank you.

a couple of decent amps that come to mind, (if you can find one)are the Finder Princeton Chorus, and the Gibson Explorer. The Princeton should be easy to find ($200-$250 used) but the Explorer (preferably a mid 60s tube model) may be hard to find, but it has a really rich blusey tone, if you can find one give it a try.

Thank you.

Dani,
I think the Princeton is 65 watts and I really want less power. 30 watts is about the max for here. How many watts is the Gibson Explorer, and is it all tube?

The Mesa Boogie 22 Caliber Studio Guitar Tube Amps seem to be selling at about $500 or more on ebay. Ouch.

It seems some of the preferred small tube guitar amps for studio work (just to name a few) are the

Mesa Boogie 22 Caliber
Marshall Studio 15
Fender Deluxe Reverb

And it seems even "buying used" these little guitar tube amps are not cheap. Which gets me to thinking they're classic amps, and are a good investment because they will hold their value or maybe in time be worth more. I just wish they didn't cost so much not. As a bassist I'm now trying to justify buying all these little guitar amps for my small little studio. But, I'll holdout for the "good deal" because I'm in no big hurry nor have that much money. JTOL Smile

that's what i tried to tell you.....

The really good low watt recording amps are going to be expensive.

yeah, it is what it is.

if you want the really good sound, you pay for it.

if you just can't cough up the dough, consider looking at a TECH 21 Trademark 10.

10 watts, it's solid state, but built on the sansamp circuitry that is all analog, and has tons of tonal flexibilty, plus built in cabinet simulator for direct out, and it's tiny but still loud enough to mic.

you can pull the crummy factory speaker out of it, and throw a nice weber 8" driver in it, and call it good.

I've heard about the TECH 21 amp before, I'll look into it. Thank you for the tip.
