For £130 (which is only 1 night out missed) you can get the ADK A-51 Standard Type V and the ADK SC-1 from Turnkey

Hey thanks Neil for quoting my post so Mark can see it. :D

Keep this up, guys. This is some much-needed entertainment.

I've really been digging the M69 on snare, by the way, which I guess is fairly similar to the 201 from what I gather.

You guys . . . Chessparov turned me on to the Electrovoice 666, as per some comments by Bob Ohlson at the Gearslutz forum. Anyway, I picked one up not long ago for around $100. Guys, this thing smokes. I'm considering selling every one of my mics and recording everything with it. Not really. But if I had a thousand bucks to spend on mics, I might consider getting 10 of 'em.

With regard to the ADK A-51 STD Type V, anybody used one? Would it compare to the C2000B in terms of quality, applications etc.

Thanks for the useful adivce so far on this thread (yes it is there, after you've found your way through the useless bickering and abuse).

What did you do as far as the connector was concerned for the 666 Chessrock?

Well, excuse my non-technical language. I'm not much of a techie-type. :D So first I yanked the thing where the pins stick out so it was even with the base of the microphone. That way you can fit a standard XLR mic cord on there. I had to switch the pin wires on the cable, though. I just played musical pins untill I got something that passed signal. :D So I've got a special jerry-rigged cable now I use just for the 666.

Well, I've used the A-51 S Pro like I said earlier - and if that's anything to go by I'd say it'd compare very favourably to the AKG.
The Pro is very sensitive & I think the A-51 Standard is less so, but I bet it'll surprise you.
For £130 for 2 mics you can't fall off!
Drop Larry Villella an email - he'll say buy the ADK :) - but he won't feed you a line about how his products blow everything else away, he'll just give you some advice on whether it'll suit your applications.

Chessrock, how do you like it on vox--male, female, low, high? What mics would you compare/contrast it with?

You should do yourself a great service and buy a sennheiser 421 (441 ifyou can afford it) It is great on everyhthing you mentioned and you will NEVER outgrow it

P.S. how do you guys get your words so big? that's cool, heh.heheh

I guess this would be pretty obvious, but I'd compare it with the RE-20. Very tight bass response. Very smooth highs -- almost ribbon-like. Kind of aggressive in the midrange like an sm57, but smoother and more professional like an RE-20 or an SM-7. What a fantastic midrange presence this thing has -- just very smooth and pleasing. I can already tell I'm going to like this on guitar amps.

It's easy. When you post a message you'll see some buttons above the Text Entry Window. Click on the arrow next to the word "SIZE" and select "HUGE". Then when the Tag appears in the TEW you can change the number (which is 4) to a higher number (up to 9); if you so desire.

I'm now looking at getting 2 x ADK SC-1 and 1 x ADK A-51 STD Type V, all for £180 from turnkey.

Cool - let us know how you get on :)

I hope your order goes smoothly - those sales guys are complete f**king muppets IME - but at least you have an outside chance of them messing it up in a good way !

I haven't used a condenser on vocals since I got an SM7 and a pair of 666's (with connectors). Those 666's are just flat out amazing mics. I have yet to record anyone that doesn't sound good on one of those 2 mics. There are a couple up on ebay right now.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2579872088&category=41465 - This one has the connector

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2578988275&category=41466 - No connector

The only downside with these mics is that when they die, that's it. EV can't fix them any longer.

Doh! ! %$*

Knock that crap off, Freshmatty. You're not supposed to encourage people to drive my bidding price up like that.

Like Freshmatty says . . . they're not serviceable anymore -- once they die, that's all she wrote. And the connector issue is a big 'ol womping pain in the ass. I spent the better part of an entire afternoon hotwiring mine so I could actually connect it to something.
