Our small church is considering going from cassette copies of the sevice to CD.
Presently we have a wireless system with mikes etc going to a mixer and the line out from mixer to a dual deck cassette recorder. Can we just swap the cassette deck with a CD recorder such as a TASCAm CD- RW750, and then using the master CD to make copies with the office computer, we only make about 6 copies a week? Would there be level problems using the mixer line out?
Or can someone make a suggestion as the best way to accomplis what we want.
Thanks
George

Realtime recording to CD can be a bit risky. If you do use a standalone, you should at least use y-connectors and run the cassette recorder simultaneously as a backup. While it's possible to go the standalone route, I think it would be better to record the audio into a computer with a CD burner. That way, the CD burn is a separate process from the audio recording. Also, you'd then have the option to do some post-processing on the audio before committing it to disc.

Should be fine connecting the outputs of the mixer to the inputs of the CD recorder. The audio levels should not be much of an issue. Just make sure you never hit the top of the level meter on the CD recorder. A digital "over" sounds ugly. Really ugly. You might consider putting a compressor/limiter somewhere in the chain if you don't have one already. (Or maybe the recorder has one built in?)

What's wrong with continuing the cassette recording.
Just DUB the cassette to the PC, then burn to CD.
CD burning programs like Nero have Hiss Suppression, Stereo Widen, EQ, etc

You can even chop segments of the one big file into smaller files on the PC. Copy section of the WAV file and Paste into new file.
Each file becomes a track. Then, it's easy to find what you're looking for on the CD.
Note: never delete or Cut from master.

It seems your cassette process is stable, and you may have some cassette subscribers.

Another reason for my suggestion, is you can use the cassette to PC setup to make CD's of the existing cassette archive. You will be a hero !!!
