Anyone know how to get a good sounding metal guitar track using Adobe Audition 3 and a little Marshall amp?

small amps should be easier to record than loud amps. You can crank the powertubes and still have a manageable volume.

I'm gonna put my money on it being an MG series marshall....
means no power tubes :(

But yes, you should be able to get a good sound from your marshall.... But remember, if your using a smaller speaker your probably gonna get less bass response.
but that could be a good thing (more room for drums n bass)

And here are some #1 rules you should follow at all times NO MATTER WHAT:
1). DON'T SCOOP THE PISS OUT OF YOUR MIDS!!!!! You need those mids, it will give your tone clarity and will help your guitar track stick out in the mix

2). less gain is more. You don't need as much gain as you can possibly get with recording. Distortion at it's core is compression and too much of it will make your guitar track sound like a mushy mess.

But maybe you want that

either way, good luck to ya ;)

Good advice from KingofPain.
I bet it might even be a little solid state 15 watter. Even the new 5 watt Marshall tubes are LOUD.
I also think its best to use a large diaphragm condenser mic what recording with very low volumes.
He was right about the distortion & EQ. You can fix the EQ after the fact, but you cant add or reduce distortion. Here's what I do...
Record 2, 3 or even 4 tracks of the same thing with different levels of distortion. Then during mixdown, you can try them out un-muting one at a time.

It really makes processing a simpler ordeal.

Good luck.

Get the tone you like from the amp, then back off on the distortion. What sounds good in the room often sounds buzzy and shrill in a mix. Less distortion than what your gut is telling you will sound huger.

I personally wouldn't piss money away on that marshall, unless you know for sure that is the sound your after.

I would rather mic a jcm %$# half stack than that mg whatever.

There are several valve amps in the low watt range to consider. One that comes to mind is the orange Tiny Terror.
