SM7 vs MXL 960 - Apples to pears?

Hi all, I'm debating between an MXL 960 and a Shure SM7. I know that the 960 is half the price and a different type of mic... I want something to do voiceover, guitar, and male / female vox, so the SM7 is very attractive to me. However, at half the price, the MXL is tempting. Does anyone happen to have the ability to A/B them to tell differences? Just curious. Thanks, -Brian

Between those two, get the SM7, especially because you mentioned VO.

If you want a less $$ alternative to the SM7, get a Beyer Soundstar MKII
(aka Model 400). Tighter pattern than the SM7, but it requires better mic technique, like a M88. Plus side is that it's not as finicky about what pre you use like a Shure. Similar kind of tone.

If you look around, you can find a new EV RE16 for about $200. It's worthy of inclusion in the shortlist too. Easier for amateur VO or vocal talent, in terms of mic technique, than any of these. Also superior to the Shure as far as budget pre or mixer compatablity.

Am assuming you mean "electric guitar" (not acoustic) BTW.

How does the RE16 compare to the RE15 and, say, an AudioTechnica 3300? I've used an AT3300 for live concert vocals before, sounds pretty darn good. I'm an RE20 fan, but am having trouble finding one in my price range...
