I'm helping to get a small studio under way, and we're and looking to make one of our first big purchases. Here's the locker so far:
2 57s (and a 58, two more on the way)
Beta52a
R144
Samson CO1/CO2 pair

We've got drums pretty much covererd, but as you can see, a solid vocal mic is needed. Our next mic must

1. Be availible for 300 or less (used is fine)
2. Do loud male vocals, screaming included, well
3. Give us a second option on guitar, alone or paired with the ribbon
4. play nice with kick for an option instead of the 52
5. 300ish or less

Which brought to mind 3 popular choices:

* SM7
* RE20
* CAD 179

All are known for at least a few of these things, and I'm having trouble narrowing down. Thoughts? Other recommendations?

RE20... I have the boss pedal version and it is disgustingly fun to play with. I can't imagine how much fun I'd have with an actual RE20.

Yeah, I got a little mixed up.

I thought you were talking about a roland RE-201 Space Echo tape delay and reverb unit.

Boss remade this into a pedal unit call the RE20. It is pretty awesome. The original RE-201 however, is awesome, expensive, and hard to find. It's also in a lot of project as well a professional studios but nobody ever sells them.

This goes to show how well I read the original post. My bad.

SM7 is good on kick,great for vocals(screaming included), and you can get a used one for under 300.
