I bought the SM58 before I started reading up about LD condenser mics. I was thinking of selling the SM58. Got an offer for the same I paid. I record rap music. Do you guys think I should get the V67. I love the way it looks. Not to mention it has better range than the SM58. Your thoughts.

I've got a 67 and am pretty happy with it except it's only used for vox around here. The 58 gets used for some vox, guitar cabs and maybe toms.

But that's my style. You have a 67 you could try out first?

No, unfortunately no test unit. I pretty much only need it for vox. The real seller for me is the "concept" of LD condenser mics over dynamic mics. I want to capture the full range of every breath I take. The dynamic mics lack in this department.

if you just recording rap voxs

then you should switch to a ldc and i would also suggest getting a pop filter

one question?

do you have an interface or preamp that will provide phantom power for the ldc?

Ya, I'm using a Focusrite Saffire Interface. I was planning on getting a pop filter as well if I bought the LD condenser. Thanks.

Have you also got a decent place to record? LDCs are nice, but they are also very sensitive. They pick up all kinds of extraneous sound if you don't have a decent recording environment -- cars passing by, people in the adjacent aprtment, the refrigerator, you computer fan, etc. if you don't have a decent room, dynamic mics can be your friend.

My place of recording could be better. But I've not had any major interference with the dynamic mics I've used. Of course, only time will tell if the LDCs will do the same.

+1 I record in an untreated spare bedroom and in my living room. I had a Rode NT1a for awhile and I have rented and tried AKG414, Shure KSM27 and KSM32, AT 4033 and a SP C1.

They ALL picked up traffic noise, dogs barking down the street, the AC unit, fridge and the fan noise from the PC. A LOT! Yes, they provide more detail, but if you are not in a treated environment, I would look at a better dynamic. I settled on an SM7b (needs a lot of gain though), but I also tried and like an EV RE20 and Sennheiser MD441. The 441 is too much for me, I think about $650, but it comes pretty close to providing the detail that a LDC does.

for rap music, i think i would prefer something like the SM58 over a condenser, especially in a non recording environment, i think it's more giving.

Interesting. I have decided I'll be purchasing the LDC mic this coming week. The biggest workaround like you guys have mentioned is room treatment. I think if it turns out to be that big of an issue, I'll build a small dedicated iso room.
