Sorry guys, it's been thirty years since I stepped on a stage. I remember using a lot of Shure mics and I thought that this was not a low Z mic because I kinda remembered the mic having a 1/4 phone plug. I now have a couple if Sm 58s without cords. What cords do I need? I've got a few XLR to XLR cables and a XLR to a balenced (TRS) (we used to call them stereo plugs) phone plug. And will I need phantom power? ...and If the phantom power is already on for another type mic, should any damage be expected to the SM58 if phantom power is not needed?
Kinda dumb question I know, but I really don't remember and dumb questions are usually the easiest to answer. Thanks to all for any reply!

Not dumb questions....

Use XLR - XLR whenever possible
Don't need phantom power with sm58's or any other dynamic mic.
Won't hurt the mic if phantom power is applied.

Super response, all my questions concise and complete! Thanks so very much!

That's cuz ChiliDude's a thuper guy.
Aaaand he puts out on the first date. :p

Th-top it, you embarathsing me. <blush> :o

Perhaps back in the day your mic looked like the one below. Looks a bit like a SM58 and it does have 58 in it's name.
One of my $5 yardsale finds.

Must sing LOUD to get that thing to line levels. :D

I used to have a Tascam 244 with the 1/4 mic plugs and used a 57 into it. It worked but sounded horrible. I'm guessing impedance mismatch yields wretched transient response.

Those are like the ones I used to sharpen my Roger Daltrey skills. Swinging them around by their cord letting a little more cord out with each revolution. Sadly, they all eventually impacted the floor at just a little bit less than the speed of light.
