The Beta57 is similar to the 57 but has a brighter top-end and more present character.

The SM7 is a completely different mic altogether.

I keep seeing a mic similar looking to the SM7 in studios for vocals. Is it the SM7 or something else?

chances are, it's the SM7. it's primary use is vocals, although some folks really like it on kick drum and guitar amps (among other things).

you'll see a lot of SM7's and EV RE20's in radio stations as well. they're both classic broadcast mics in addition to being great studio mics.

Just Picked up an SM7. Best buy I've made in a while, surprisingly. Used it on Vox, and amazingly beat out some of my higher end mics on Acoustic Guitar.

Very VERY smooth response. Right in the middle as far as sound goes, not too high, not to low,,,,,,,,basically a great go to mic especially for vocals when your having trouble matching a vocalist to a certain mic.

Highly reccomended

The grille and internal windscreen is the only difference.

The capsule is EXACTLY the same.

Good to know..So where in Ottawa can I find a SM7?? the 57's are everywhere..

make sure its the SM7b i'm told it has a lower noise floor then the original sm7....a lil more modern i guess.

Does anyone have a recording in which they recorded a distortion guitar (electric) with any version of the SM57? I want to see just how good it sounds when recording guitars. Thanks.
