Setup:
Cobra Amp - Crunch Channel
Cobra Cab - Greenbacks
Mic: SM57 (Top Right Speaker) and e609S (Top Left Speaker)

The guitar was double tracked with each mic to a separate track... so that's four tracks. Two SM57 and two e609S

The short riff is available twice

1st riff alternates between the SM57 and e609S. When a particular mic is heard, it's only that mic in both Left and Right but alternates so the differences are apparent:

Time \ Left \ Right
00:00 SM57 SM57
00:09 e609S e609S
00:17 SM57 SM57
00:21 e609S e609S
00:25 SM57 SM57
00:33 e609S e609S
00:42 SM57 SM57

2nd riff is the SM57 on the Left and the e609S on the Right but not hard panned so you're getting a tad of the other mic in the opposite side.

Time \ Left \ Right
00:00 SM57 e609S

Disclaimer: The tracking for this clip was conducted in exactly the same manner as the MD421 and e609S Mic Comparison . No effort was made to find a sweet spot for any mic. The SM57 was positioned, as much as possible, in the same location as the MD421

I have been considering a 609....looks like I might have to pick one up now. Its definatly a different sound.

Thank you VERY much for the comparrison test on these three mics (the previous thread included :D )

I have both the SM57 and the e609 (black/original) and I'm glad to know/hear the tonal differences as I've not been able to test them out yet my self.

I've always had a hard time using a 57 micing guitar cabs, that's why I purchased the 609.

I wonder what the 609 would sound like on some other popular 57 applications such as snare and toms.??? Something to ponder....

Thanks again!!

Rick

Wow, awesome! Thanks for doing this!

Actually, I ditched all my SM57's for an e609s. (no, I didn't trade...I sold 2 SM57's and bought an e609s with some of the money)

IMO, the e609s sounds better by itself but after hearing them at the same time...wow, I'm going to start double micing my guitar cab. One SM57 and one e609s.

Great sound. Kudos.

thanks alot again i've been wanting one of these tests

i like the e609 more so you've finalized my thoughts ....im gettin the e609!!

Thanks :D

Yep, this is really cool AND useful: thanks for taking the time :)

Stan.

Did you ever try blending them together....I would love to hear them both blended together equally and then panned.....none the less this was great....thanks....

Chad, I've added a 3rd riff mix with the 57/609 blended somewhat equally on each side (Left/Right). this is pretty cool, there's a lot of guitar in the center and on the sides

wow my playing is really loose on this....
