This will be my first mic along with a Behringer ub1002 mixer. I'll be doing a lot of soulsful narrative poetry reading type spoken word projects. For now, I'm just experimenting and getting familiar with the technology. I have the mixer ordered and the mic has not been ordered yet, but I'm pretty sure it will be the SM57 (budget of $100). I know I will eventually upgrade, but for now will I get decent results with this mic? I am getting it because it seems to be among the most versatile and I will be recording other instruments as well.
Get the Shure SM57... it works great and will last a lifetime... you can upgrade to a Shure SM7 later.

PS... voiceover hint, if you don't have an isolated vocal booth, stay away from the condenser mics. ;)

Nah, get a Soundstar MKII. It works greater, will last several generations and sounds just like an SM7 already EQed for voice :D

Thank you for all the opinions. I have just sent payment for a MXL v67g. First mic, quite excited. Everything should get here by Thur. Still got to go buy a cable and stand though :(. Almost out of money.

Hey, make sure to post back when you've tried it and let us know what you think.
