So I found the Shure SM57 used for around 60$ (about half of the retail price here in Denmark) and the Shure BG 4.1 for about 40$ more (also half of the retail). Now my question is which one to get? I might afford both ofthem, but that depends on me selling my old Fostex FD4 - if not only one.
I´ve got a sm58, sennheiser 825, Shure prologue 12 and a ndm cad 10 and I need a mike for allround instrument recording (amps, drums and horns) - which would you recommend?

Im not that familer with the 4.1, but the sm57 is the most bang for the buck, can be used for any session ,any instrument.

IKES!

The BG stuff is CRAP! Don't get it, whatever you do.

I've got a couple of different BG series mics locked away somewhere from a time before I knew any better....muffled, noisy, no gain having junk! It's like they try to fool you with the word BETA....like maybe it's as good as, say, a BETA57...............NO chance!!!

Get the 57...it will stay with you always as a 57 never goes out of style!

I've even used a single 57 as an overhead with a D112 in the kick and gotten a damn useable drum sound!

Yeah I know about using the sm57 for drums. I used a bunch of sm58´s without the top (I don´t know what it is called) and got some good sounds too. BTWI also used the AKG112.
I´ll definetly buy the sm57 then.
