Anyone know if it's possible to interchange the ball from the 58 with the screen from the 57?

Just got finished reading several pages of discussion about these 2 mics, and aside from very very slight differences, everyone seems to attribute the diff in sound to the ball vs. the screen. So, if the ball will fit, then no need to buy a 58, just a ball for the 57.

Besides, why WOULDN'T I want to?

Nope, there are no threads on a 57, so the windscreen won't fit. Shure does make a 57 windscreen, however, it is not a metal screen, it's foam only.

It's true... the SM57 and the 58 use exactly the same mic capsule.... the body shell and the ball-end/windscreen cause the small variations in sound between the two.

Because there's no rational reason you'd WANT to do that!

Never said it was rational :D Also just wondering how much the body casing affects the sound vs. the ball/screen.

You might want to clean the 58. After enough people spit in it, the difference gets more drastic.
