SM48?!!

I got a SM57, SM58, and a mic i'm usin to mic the bass drum.

I use the sm57 on snare, 58 as overhead.

My friend is bringing over a SM48 - should i use that as another overhead? or not use it? any responses would be great.
thanks

It should be fine...48 is a budget 58 with a switch..Have fun!
mic the kick with the 57 and the 48/58 for your overheads..Good luck...

ive heard that the 48 is a little weaker than the 57/58 so id take the ball off the 58 and use the 57/58 on overheads so it will be more balanced....48 on the kick......

wait..

alright...but the SM48 has no switch on it. (at musicians friend.com ...its 99 bucks stil).

I use an EV mic on the bass drum....so i was thinking 58/48 as overheads, and 57 on snare.

how's that sound?
or should i just forget about the 48 altogether, and use just the 58 as 1 overhead? thanks.

maybe the 48 on the snare to keep the 57/58 on overheads so the overhead sound will be more balanced.....

thanks

perfect. i'll try it out

thanks again. i'll let you know if it works..ha

I'd second the idea of the 48 on snare. If the output is lower on it, it might get overpowered by the other overhead mic. On the snare it will pick it up if it wants to or not. Might try it with the ball both on and off too, just to see which way you like it better.
