Started using the Shure SM-7 with the M-Audio 1010LT preamps. Fantastic gain, excellent (to my amateur ear) sound. Thing is built like a tank, I bet I could use this mic for self defense.

Hope to upgrade the preamps to RNP next year. We'lll see.

I forgot the 1010LT had preamps

I just set the jumpers to line level as soon as I got mine. I'm gonna check out the pres one day just out of curiosity.

Doesn't the 1010 have pres on 2 of the inputs only (the XLR inputs)? That was my understanding. I'm about to purchase the 1010, so this is something I'd like to know.

That´s right the LT only has pres for the first two ins (XLR). The other 8 ins are unbalanced RCA.

Kevin I assume you are talking about the 1010LT as opposed to the 1010?

If so what tamasabian says is correct.

The 1010 has no pres built in but all the inputs are balanced (and are mounted in a breakout box).

1010LT inputs 1 and 2 are balanced XLR connectors that can be jumpered to serve as mic preamps (NO PHANTOM POWER) or as line level inputs. All other analog inputs are unbalanced. The 1010 (with the breakout box) has no preamps.
